What 80s Nickelodeon shows do you remember?
80s Nickelodeon wasn't as popular as 90s Nickelodeon, but there were some big hits during that time like Double Dare
What 80s Nickelodeon shows do you remember? I'm pretty sure Double Dare is the most remembered out of the bunch
Also just as a reminder, Hey Dude and Eureeka's Castle came out during the second half of 1989, so they're barely 80s shows, but you can include them since I'm talking about any show that aired at some point on Nickelodeon in the 80s
I noticed Looney Tunes hasn't been mentioned at all. It aired on Nickelodeon in the 80s, as well as the 90s, though to be fair, it aired on many networks like ABC so it's understandable

Double Dare, You can't do that on television, Pinwheel, Sharon Lois and Bram's Elephant Show, Danger Mouse, and Count Duckula were some of my favorites off the top of my head.
Skidamarinky dinky dink
Skinnamarinky dooooooo
I love you! (both. For this reference)
Wowwww the memories that just came flooding back!
I love you in the morning and in the afternoon.
WAIT THIS WAS NICKELODEON???? Wow holy frick you just rocked my world. My parents sang me this song to sleep as a kid for years and it still is one I sing to myself when I can’t sleep. This just made my night. Thank you.
Skidamarink was written 1910!
This aired on PBS. I never once saw it on Nickelodeon in person or in the TV Guide lol.
“Does bubblegum lose its flavor?”
On the bedpost overnight?
All hits! This was my era too and I did live through and watched the earlier hits of the 90s up until about 94-95ish
I still quote danger mouse and count duckula to this day.
Those shows literally still hold up to this day. I bought a bootleg blu of both shows and have been watching them and dangermouse is legit laugh out loud funny . Same with duckula, they have that funny dry British humor
I didn't watch Danger Mouse and Duckula on Nick. I saw them on USA or UPN or something.
Allester was the Zach Morris of Canadian tv
I was born in 85, I remember David the Gnome
And I remember a song that had a dude climb out from a tree stump and sing songs on an acoustic guitar but I don't remember his name I don't think it was Rafi
Man David the Gnome was so good and the ending was sad AF
It's my favorite piece of animation.
It was streaming on Amazon a few years ago. I didn't realize it was such a short-lived show and I didn't remember ever seeing the ending as a kid. Fuuuuuuuuck me!
Such a good show!
Oh man, I loved David The Gnome. I still randomly sing the theme song 🤭…
Fred Penners Place
You just unlocked a memory...I used to crawl behind the couch in our living room, pretending I was following him through the log in the intro.
This show was so relaxing to me! I loved his setup with the stump and musical instruments hidden in the woods. I dreamed of having my own special place someday. I liked this show and Sharon Lois and Brahams Elephant Show so much better than the cartoons on Nick Jr.
Holy shit I've been trying to think of the name of this show for years, thank you both
Just unlocked a whole part of my brain there chief. Careful with that nostalgia beam
I think David the Gnome is on prime
The finale of David the gnome was trauma
Swift ❤️
whenever i faked sick to stay home from school i was watchin the FUCK out of that damn gnome
You Can’t Do That On Television and Duckula most of the 80s shows at the start were 50s shows like Flipper, Lassie, Dennis The Menace but still putting the animated and stylized bumpers and advertising.
Rocky and Bullwinkle was another 50s show I remember watching on nick
Man. 80s Nick was playing cartoons from the 50s. Now 2020s Nick is calling early 2000s cartoons retro I remember Nick at Nite playing I Love Lucy
Nick at Nite for me was Get Smart, Mr. Ed, I Dream of Genie
Car 54, Munsters, Lassie
Haha lol I remember it was “Bullwinkle’s Moose-a-Rama.” And the closing credits and Program Exchange bumper meant it was time for bed lol.
I remember that too, later on I believe they called it Bullwinkle's Moose-A-Rama
They call him flipper, flipper, faster than lightning!
I sing that song all the time. It was catchy and I still remember it from watching the show on Nick.
I vividly remember the flipper/lassie reruns they had. Was never a fan so I always changed it during then. I remember Mr. Ed too, but that could have been nick at nite?
It used to really blend a lot more in the transition between the two but I seem to remember Mr Ed being being on during the day too, Green Acres was also in those transitional hours too iirc.
Mr Wizard’s World, Todays Special, David the Gnome, Pinwheel, Bananaman. There was so many.
Mr wizard was the shit!!
Today’s Special is one of my all-time faves! I still have the song from the Goldilocks and the Three Bears living rent free in my head. Jodie (Nerene Virgin) passed away in January. 😭
SHOUTING LOUD AND CLEAR!!!
That episode of todays special where the guy had snow mailed to him is forever etched into my brain
I didn't realize Today's Special was on Nick. It's definitely a favorite.
My older cousin would get pissed when I won custody of the remote and called them “Pinwheel Crap” and “Today’s Special Shit.”
Adventures of the Little Koala. Although I only remember pieces of a desert episode and one where they tried to draw a life size tree.
Don’t forget Noozles!
My earliest Japanese import memory probably. I think this is the show that got me into anime along with Grimm's fairytales. Didn't figure out that it was all coming from the same place until later but I knew that I loved it.
Oh. Forgot about Grimm’s fairy tales.
Mysterious Cities of Gold was another great one though I only caught a few episodes along with other DiC imports running at the time.
Today’s Special was my favorite. I don’t remember if it was Nick but Captain Caveman and Space Ghost too
I remember those for USA Sunday Cartoon Express.
That’s where I first saw Thundarr the Barbarian, but also Devlin the Daredevil, Hair Bear Bunch, Speed Buggy, and other single season HB cartoons.
Didn't Cartoon Express also air on Saturday afternoons back in the day??? Big props to Devlin and the Hair Bear Bunch!!
Captain Caveman and Space Ghost never aired on Nick. The only Hanna Barbera show Nick aired was Yogi Bear in the very early 90s
I LOVED today's special!
Spartakus The Mysterious Cities of Gold You Can't Do That on Television Today's Special Pinwheel
I loved Cities of Gold and Spartakus. My friends never knew what the hell i was talking about.
Pinwheel!!!
Inspector Gadget
As I sit here with my apple watch and IPad remembering when Penny’s setup was only the stuff of dreams.
Double Dare, You Can’t Do That on Television, Hey Dude, Looney Tunes, Think Fast, Inspector Gadget, Count Duckula, Danger Mouse, Heathcliff, Sharon, Lois, & Bram’s Elephant Show, Pinwheel, Today’s Special, Fred Penner’s Place, David the Gnome, Noozles, Eureeka’s Castle, and Out of Control.
My prime Nick watching years were the 90s but I remember a lot of these shows carried over in first run and reruns
You Can't Do That on Television, Mr. Wizard, Pinwheel, Today's Special, Adventures of the Litttle Prince, David the Gnome, Danger Mouse, Banana Man.
Cut It Out was one of the shows I remember
Out of Control
I loved Out of Control. I would bet anything that it doesn't hold up and that's why I have avoided watching it on YouTube.
Kids Court Make the Grade Finders Keepers You Can’t do that on Television Danger Mouse Double Dare Hey Dude Pete and Pete (the commercial shorts not the full show) Mr Wizards World etc…
I’d take 80’s Nickelodeon over 90’s anytime.
Mentioned: YCDTOTV, Double Dare & Finder’s Keepers, Out of Control, Mr. Wizard, Today’s Special, Duckula, Hey Dude…
Not mentioned: Turkey TV, Nick Rocks, Don’t Just Sit There…
And of course all the B&W shows on Nick at Nite.
I completely forgot about Don’t Just Sit There! Thanks so much for the reminder.
I miss Nick at Nite so much. I also found the Monkees when they (and MTV) aired the episodes, and they’ve been my favorite band since I was seven.
Scrolled down way too far to find mention of Finder's Keepers! For the longest time I thought I had imagined that show, then when YouTube was in its relative infancy I was relieved to find clips of the show there.
Turkey TV was great. It was like the internet before the internet existed.
There were some other cartoons like:
Belle and Sebastian (Japanese TV series)
The Mysterious Cities of Gold
Star Trek TOS cartoon movies
One of my very, very, very, VERY early memories (I was born in 1981; this had to be before my sister was born in 1985), is of my mother picking me up from a babysitter at like 5:30 or 6:30am (so I must have spent the night; my parents must have went out of town or something), and “The Mysterious Cities of Gold” was on the living room television as my mom came through the front door; it was still dark outside.
Hahaha you’re the only one I’ve seen so far to toss in Star Trek the animated series in with their faves of that time, I absolutely loved it as well. I don’t think too many people remember it being on there 🤔
I also remember watching Star Trek: The Animated Series on Nickelodeon. It came on Sunday afternoons and in the summer around lunch time.
Belle and Sebastian was my absolute favorite
Mr. Wizard's World.
The Elephant Show, Adventures of the Little Koala, Noozles, The Litt’l Bits, Maya the Bee, David the Gnome, Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics, Maple Town, Today’s Special
Wait Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics was on TV? I was really, really little when I watched that so I always remembered it as a vhs. I loved that show!
I think they've all been mentioned but definitely Pinwheel, Today's Special, Mr. Wizard, Double Dare, Hey Dude and Inspector Gadget
My mom hated You Can't Do That on Television so I wasn't really allowed to watch it.
I started watching Nickelodeon in '91, so we still got some shows left over from the '80s, notably Danger Mouse, Eureeka's Castle, and The World of David the Gnome.
