Amazing food and service

My wife and I stumbled across this place during a recent week-long trip to Ann Arbor. It was near our hotel and we decided to give it a chance as the parking lot was busy. So glad that we stopped in. Service (Mike R) was fast and friendly. Food was incredible!! Fried chicken with fresh biscuits, a cold beer, and some wine for my wife and the total was $70 with tax, plus tip. Can't wait to come again and try some of the other menu items.

World Class Customer Service!

I have been to the Roadhouse several times. The food is great, has that classic homemade feel and taste to it. But the real reason to go is their world class customer service. A few times I had special requests, and Zingermans helped accommodate every time with smiles and enthusiasm. They treat you like family there, and as long as you are honest and straight forward with them in person, they will make sure you leave happy and respected. I would recommend this to any person wanting fabulous customer service. The food is stellar, dont get me wrong. I cannot stress how amazing the customer service is! Fantastic! If there are any negative reviews, its because those people were duplicitous and lied to the servers and staff in person and decided to try and ruin this locations reputation to satisfy their selfishness and egos.

The service was fantastic. Really nice people Working there. Our server was especially great. I had the chicken Mac and Cheese, that gets five stars. We shared the Poutine, also five stars. My wife had the BBQ plate, it was a little too spicy, and the sides were just okay.

Where are the other five stars? This place is a ten!

OMG if you like chicken order the fried chicken! It is slightly spicy, layered with a hard crunchy, divine crust and it arrives a pleasing slightly dark brown color. It is swoon- worthy fried chicken. If you take some home, leave it in the cardboard container they give you and it will stay just as crispy as when it arrived. The mashed potatoes and gravy are similarly wonderful. The barbecued ribs are the best of the best and the fish is excellent. Drinks are excellent. Service is superior. I have visited 18 countries and really, this is still one of my top most favorite restaurants.

There was a line even on a Thursday.

I give Zingerman's a 3 out of 5. I initially thought, "wow, this place must be good because there's a line even on a Thursday." I was excited to see how this place would pan out. The place was crowded. Zingerman's was roomy enough to accommodate the largest of groups from families celebrating high school graduation to the occasional meet up after work. The menu was extensive and expensive - lol! They covered all the bases from burgers to barbecue and from fish to kale salad with flank steak strips which I ordered. My wife ordered the buttermilk battered fried chicken which she said was good. For a family of 7, I found it to be expensive. We paid over $110.00. I would go back and try the barbecue. As we sat and waited for our food, the smell of barbecue was all around. Although, I gave Zingerman's a 3 out of 5, I am willing to go back and give it another try. In my opinion, I felt Zingerman's was overrated. However, I'll go back and maybe order something else.

Pricey but Good

We came with 12 people. The place is more relaxed blue jean restaurant. They have a drive through. Saturday night very busy. We had reservations. I got scallops ($48) they were good, they came with very salty mashed potatoes and cole slaw. There were different sides available. My wife got the white fish ($33), she said best she ever ate. I saw a few of the steaks and they were definitely good quality. Overall good service, nice atmosphere, and good food, but pricey.

A delightful experience! Highly recommend!

First time here and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long. My mother and I stopped for lunch after visiting U of M hospital. Mandie was our server and she was delightful. We had the amazing sweet potato fries and the kale salad. The room we ate in had lots of salt and pepper shakers on display, which was lovely. It was an absolutely delighful experience! Oh and don’t forget to get the biscuits!!!

Very few restaurants actually make me mad even if I have a bad experience. I pretty much chalk it up to a one time deal. I would not apply that to this restaurant. I feel this way because of the claims they are making. So if you make a claim, you should back it up, especially if you seem to be the main game in town. Ordered the burger. It was very good. Ordered the black bean chili. It was also good .Ordered the bread sampler, which they claim it’s “better than San Francisco sourdough”. It is not. If there is no tang to the sourdough bread, this cannot be just my opinion. My biggest issue is with the macaroni and cheese. Have you not traveled? Have you not ever had good mac & cheese? Where is the cheesiness? Where is the comfort factor? I don’t know how you’re known for this. Embarrassing. A separating oily mess. Then I would comment on the prices. I said, in another review of their deli, that they like to be very idealistic in their business practices, apparently. Therefore, making the claims that you’re making and charging the prices that you charge does not add up. When will you evaluate what your customers are saying? I wish I had read other reviews before I wasted my time here and my money here. This is not a roadhouse experience with Southern specialties.

Amazing food and service

The staff are super helpful and friendly. Pete, our server, was amazing! We had the BBQ and lunch special white fish po’boy and were very impressed. We’re from NC, so we’re picky about BBQ and Zimmerman had the best ribs we’ve eaten. The white fish was also delicious. Ingredients are fresh, atmosphere is warm, inviting and eclectic and the staff are awesome.

Overpriced and underwhelming

This was our 2nd time here hoping it would be better than the first. Nope. I really believe when you eat here, you're paying for the Zingerman's brand, and not much else. Everything is ridiculously overpriced. A chicken sandwich is $26...a glass of wine is $19...a cup of soup is $9. The food should be phenomenal at these prices, but sadly it isn't. Our server was nice, but not super attentive. When the bill arrived, she stood over me watching me choose a tip percentage on the scanner. No thanks. They should train their waitstaff that hovering is a no-no. They also allow dogs inside the restaurant and beg at the table and whine/bark. I love dogs, but why do people feel it's ok to bring their dog EVERYWHERE?? Dogs don't belong in restaurants!

Really enjoyed the Chicken Fried Pickles and the Pork Taco! The Fried Chicken Sandwich with Black Pepper Fries was yummy! We would absolutely return here!

Ok, But Not Great

We ate here tonight as we are visiting town for two nights to check out the university. Absolutely everyone we know told us to “go to Zingermans”. The wait for a sandwich at the deli was nearly 4 hours, pass on that. And we had dinner at the Roadhouse tonight. The Mac and cheese was good, not great. And the kale salad was really very good. We then waited a very long time for our entrees, we sat and sat and asked our server twice and eventually the order came out. We had chili, a bbq platter and fried chicken. Everything was ok. Not incredible. The food was fine but not amazing. The service was really sort of lacking. For $120 before tip for a simple dinner I expect more. It was nice to visit this legendary restaurant but after being unable to buy a sandwich at the main spot plus this pricey so-so dinner I don’t think I’ve been converted to LOVE Zingermans the way everyone seems to do.

Smart Way To Start The Days Drive

Dropped in here during a visit to Ann Arbor and very happy with the food and the service. Convenient location if you are on the road and want breakfast before hitting the highway but close enough to the city centre that it's a short drive from the hotels. Good atmosphere, good food and solid coffee. Ticked all the boxes I care about.

Great Breakfast

In an otherwise nondescript shopping mall, you'll find Zingerman's Roadhouse. If nothing else, you'll recognize it by the metal trailer out front, which seems to be a pickup spot for morning coffee and suchlike. This place has an old-school appearance and a 60s soundtrack (Dean Martin and 1960s rock). We went for breakfast on a weekday. My friend enjoyed his coffee and his breakfast burrito (it was a special that day). I opted for the delicious Georgia Grits 'N' Bits Waffle, which had a surprisingly large amount of bacon bits, some cheese, and a little texture from the grits in the waffle batter. It was served with a small pitcher of maple syrup, a perfect accompaniment. This place is open for all three meals as well as weekend brunch. If you're planning to go, may I suggest going on a weekday and perhaps at an off-peak hour? We were there early on a weekday, but by the time we left the crowd had increased significantly. What it must be like on a weekend around noon doesn't bear thinking about.

Overpriced Trendy Restaurant

Zingerman's is an institution here in Ann Arbor. The deli downtown has been a central gathering place for students and professors for decades. The Roadhouse is a restaurant that captures some of the allure and provides the same menu as the deli...without the deli. The food is decent and I found the menu a little restrictive for brunch. It is definitely overpriced and the service today was poor. Not sure I would rush back.
