Q&A
“He died in his sleep” doesn’t necessarily mean it was peaceful.
don’t think most folks realize this. just bc you find them dead in bed doesn’t mean they didn’t gasp and gargle, thrash and shit themselves for a long time while fighting death.
Yeah, I see "passed in their sleep" constantly on Wikipedia biographies for the sole reason that they were found in a bed. Doesn't even pass Wikipedia's rules for verifiability. No one actually knows if someone died in their sleep unless they were awake and watching the whole time.
Mortician "This man has several bone deep lacerations and multiple stab wounds in vital areas along with definite signs of a struggle."
Detective 1 "Looks like one hell of a fight."
Detective 2 "Yeah, but he was found in his bed."
Mortician "got it" writes on paper: /passed in their sleep/
Sustained defense wounds in a dream
I needed that. Lmao.
unless a planned event that would be rather suspicious 😆
My aunt stroked out in bed and flailed until she got wedged upside down between the bed nightstand and wall.
Fucked up.
yeah man that’s rough, sorry turned out that way.
Hell of a start to an episode of Fucked Up Family
Omg lol. My imagination is going wild!
Why did this get downvoted? 🤣
THANK YOU. I've been saying this for years.
It seems silly to think evolution selected for humans that will sleep peacefully while they die. It seems more advantageous to wake up so you can at least stand a chance.
That assumption aside, I know if I was having a heart attack or stroke, I would probably wake up. Especially with the excruciating pain of a heart attack killing off a chunk of your heart muscle. Which is what happens. It's an infarction, lack of bloodflow causing muscle death.
And even with conditions that kill you very quickly, like cardiac arrest or ventricular fibrillation, you still have 15 to 30 seconds of useful consciousness before the oxygen in your brain gets used up and you pass out and die shortly after.
I would imagine the only way to truly die instantly would be to have a 100 ton weight dropped on your head, or to hug a detonating nuke. Something where the entirety of your brain was destroyed completely in under a second.
On the other hand, it is possible to keep someone sedated while they die. So, something like lethal injection, or palliative care where they are already under heavy sedation would definitely allow you to "sleep" through death.
I'm sure you already know most or all of this. I'm more or less being overly verbose for the sake of anyone else who reads this. So they can have more context and understand where we're coming from.
massive stroke/cardiac arrest also possibilities for sudden death in sleep but good point, we’re wired to fight death.
our healthcare system has evolved over time and shields most of the public from the reality of death. For thousands of years most of the time grandpa died in the corner of the room, hopefully with loved ones. i used to work in the intensive care unit and saw multiple deaths, patient surrounded by hospital employees .. strangers really, while family members were absent.
i know when i die i’d rather it be at home, surrounded by the people that mean the most. hopefully at some point we stop trying to hide the inevitable and learn to embrace the final moments.
LPT: Take your shoes off in advance. That way they can’t come off, and you get to live another day.
that a tradition or something ?
Meme from long ago. In those crazy accidents where the victim flips crazy and their shoe flies off, people joked that was the indicator it was lethal. Duct tape your shoes on? Immortality
Also, anyone in sandals that's trying to perform a stunt is going to fuck it up.
So fucking funny shoes off meme circlejerk
Poor Johnny.
Thanks, I hate it
"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car." - Jack Handey
Lmfaoooo. Where is that from?
Saturday Night Live
That's from u/zoupishness7 just look above the comment.
Some random comedian 100+ years ago.
Well, "He died waking up" is too confusing.
Wait.. How the hell do you wake up dead?
Well it's more like "he died while waking up" which isn't as rare as you'd think. Early morning is prime heart attack time.
Lol sorry, was just trying to make a reference hoping someone would reply with the next line.
..Cuz U alive when U go 2 sleep!
If he'd been sleeping fully extended with his head at the top, you know, like 99.9% of the population, well fuck.
And him sitting up to see what was happening just before the hit seemed to be the only reason he didnt get hit anyway. That was a damn close call.
That’s a weird flex. Definitely more than 0.1% of humans are side sleepers.
I can’t tell if you’re joking. He didn’t mean side sleepers. He meant with his head at the end of the sofa instead of the middle.
I don’t think over ever seen a side sleeper fully extended. His position is the normal one.
Baby pose saved himself 👶
We need to legalize euthanasia
For fucks sake, please.
Plane engine crashes through the roof and crushes you to death...
Only on the second time around in the Donnie Darko time loop.
Someday I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming like his passengers…
my grandfather died peacefully in his sleep unlike his passengers that died screaming
😞☠️🤌
Thankfully the nurse was available immediately.
They are just there to tell you they are a nurse. Just so everybody knows.
lol. My old girlfriends aunt was a nurse. The number of times I heard something like, “It’s ok, Im a nurse”, “believe me, I’m a nurse”, or “don’t worry, I’m a nurse.”
lol. My young girlfriends uncle was a doctor. The number of times I heard something like, "It's odd, you should just date someone your own age", or "don't be a cradle robber."
Yes officer, this guy right here
Hellllo nurse
Found the Warner brothers.
and the warner sister
Dot
Ever get the feeling when you're falling in your sleep? Yeah... this guy knows this feeling
They got out 2 blocks before the car attack, its an inside job
Hey! I'm sleepin' here!
I love how annoyed he is at the driver … as if he intentionally drove into him to disturb his nap.
His hand was very offended.
I think his hand was pinched and crushed or else the nurse wouldn't have grabbed it.
🤌🤌
Ayoo whatsamatta you?!
How can he drive!?
"...so then this asshole drives rrrright into my bedroom!"
think his arm is broken, just hasnt caught up to him yet
Adrenaline is a hellofa drug
Is his right hand/thumb messed up?
I think his arm p much broke just adrenaline delaying the pain
If you watch closely he lifts his head up at the very last moment. It would end pretty badly if he didn't
Wow, he does. Like, literally at the last possible microsecond.
Or "don't drive off the road"
The proverbial elephant in the room
that was insanely lucky
you and i have very different definitions of luck.
Insanely unlikely thing happened and fucked up your arm... but you aren't dead so that's lucky?
Maybe don't sleep while driving would have been a better title :)
Why does it matter that he was sleeping? Someone walking down the sidewalk would get fucked up too
Why does OP blame the victim? That's not right, dude.
What about the half a dozen people walking through the area, OP? Guess it's their fault if they got hit...
Yeah, he was asking for it by...you know....being on the sidewalk. Go ahead and sleep near the road. It's your right.
I see animals do it all the time!
Who cares if you're dead, as long as you were right!
I hope you never walk on a sidewalk near a road, instant death
I'll walk near a road and pay attention to my surroundings like always. You won't catch me sleeping next to a road. Even if it is my right...
Being awake doesnt mean youre more likely to survive. Tons of people die every year because they dodge into the way the car swerves. And for non lethal accidents its better to be asleep. Your muscles are more durable when relaxed (under less tension so harder to snap, can absorb more force before snapping). Its why youre more likely to survive being sucked up by a tornado if you pass out.
Well, asleep or not, this car would have struck anyone not looking while on the sidewalk, so I guess you'd just recommend we stay off sidewalks and live in fear of cars.
Nope. I'm on a sidewalk right now. Odds of getting hit are low but not zero. Still not gonna sleep right here. Also not sure why this is the flight I choose to have today. Who gives a shit
It's so annoying when your nap gets interrupted
He found a loophole. Take the shoes off before the mishap.
+100 Luck
"I'm SLEEEpin' Here!"
Aye!
Forgeet abaaaaaaabit.
