We have reached the final of the women’s beach volleyball competition at Tokyo 2020.
April Ross and Alix Klineman of the United States will take on Australia's Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar in the gold medal match on Friday 6 August, and it promises to be electric.
Two-time Olympic medallist Ross and Olympic debutant Klineman made very light work eliminating Swiss pair Anouk Verge-Depre and Joana Heidrich in their semi-final match. 1.93m tall Klineman showed why she is considered one of the world's best blockers as she continuously rose up to deny Switzerland 2-0 (21-12, 21-11).
Australia meanwhile faced a much more spirited Latvia in their semi-final meet. Tina Graudina and Anastasija Kravcenoka made an account for themselves to push Clancy and Artacho del Solar all the way in the first set (23-21).
Midway through the second however, the Australians broke through in part through Clancy's speedy serve. The 29-year-old recorded the fastest serve of the match at 71km/h. The match ended 2-0 (23-21, 21-13).
The final is set for Friday 6 August beginning at 10:00 JST, which is 18:00 in Ross' and Klineman's native California and 11:00 in Queensland, Australia.
The women’s beach volley final will take place on the sands of centre court at Shiokaze Park.
