editing timelines into other timelines

PostSun Oct 27, 2019 12:26 am

Hi,
I'm a long time user of AVID, and Premiere CC. I just started getting into DR. Loving it, but one major thing bugs me, and I can't find an answer. Does DR16 have an insert and overwrite timeline (sequences in Premiere) as nests or individual clips button? Putting a timelines tracks into another timeline, without being a compound clip?
AVID has a toggle source/record timeline button. Premiere has a "Insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips" button.
Thanks in advance!

There's no button but it's a menu option you can tick or untick:

Edit>Decompose compound clips on Edit

John Paines, Thank you!! Now is there a way to route/designate which video/audio track goes to, in the other timeline when you decompose? Similar to Avid or Premiere? Cheers.

You set audio and video destination tracks in the timeline (track # displayed with a red rectangle) and any additional tracks in the source will be mapped to timeline tracks relative to those initial choices, even if the system has to create new timeline tracks to accommodate them.

But, unlike Avid, there's no way to patch any given secondary source track to any given timeline track. And you don't have that Avid feature which displays the source in timeline format, although you can swap a timeline in the source viewer with the current timeline, and back, as needed.
