Anton Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest is a solid cop thriller. A trite plot elements & familiar themes elevated by strong direction & a set of remarkable performances from Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes and the late-great Michael K. Williams.
From the director of Training Day, Shooter, Olympus Has Fallen, Southpaw and The Equalizer, Antoine Fuqua made a film based on the 3 different lives of 3 different cops wind up at the same deadly location.
Don Cheadle as Tango was the Finest here, Ethan Hawke is my favorite and like always he did justice to his role. Richard Gere's poker face expressions didn't impress me, while his character was morally very well written.
It's a dark, atmospheric, adult cop film, shows many respective of life.

This works as a follow-up to Training Day with Ethan Hawke’s character having moved to Brooklyn, struggling to provide for his family and going from being a righteous rookie cop to a crooked one.
BROOKLYN’S FINEST is a pretty formulaic cop film, it’s raw, dark and gritty. There’s multiple plots involving an undercover cop, a retiring cop, a cop who takes money from criminals and the stories all intersect at the end.
Great performances from the cast - except what was Richard Gere doing in this, he really doesn’t belong in a cop flick.
This isn’t Antoine Fuqua’s finest, it’s full of cliches and there’s nothing that you haven’t seen in other crime/police films.
They say cops in Brooklyn are "Fine",
And surprised when they act out of line.
Cops being corrupt,
May be abrupt,
Unless they're corrupt the whole time.
I don’t know why but Ethan Hawke playing a deadbeat dad gets me wetter than anything else ever has.
On paper Brooklyn’s Finest sounds incredible and in all honesty it really should be considering how stacked its cast is. Sadly, despite all this it fails to live up to its potential and becomes unnecessarily boring in the process. The performances are all fine but Ethan Hawke is definitely the best of the bunch.
Overall, it’s a fine film but it’s definitely highly disappointing considering the cast and director involved.

After having the worst day of his life and Killing Det. Alonzo Harris, Jake had to change his identity to Sal and move his family into a shack full of mould. I wonder after that day he wishes he went along with Harris.
Edward Lewis went through a bad divorce with his so-called prostitute who had taken all his money. Salvaging what he had left and changing his name to Eddie he decided to join the police force for the rest of his life and live in a shack.

Incredible performances all around. The best work comes from Ethan Hawke and Don Cheadle and they standout the most. Wesley Snipes gives probably his best performance since New Jack City. Richard Gere proves that despite a string of bad romantic comedies, he still has what it takes to pull off a strong, dramatic character. You also get really good supporting turns from the likes of Michael K. Williams, Will Patton, and Lili Taylor. Ellen Barkin clearly seems like the weakest of the bunch, but still manages to do a decent job with what she is given. Antoine Fuqua creates a great visual style for this film, many of which fit the mood of the film or the characters tone. He does a terrific job directing from a clever, realistic, and gritty script.
WIth the recent release of Equalizer 3, I thought I'd go back into Antoine Fuqua filmography. While technically a fine filmmaker, what's most glaring is Fuqua lack of interesting female characters. The only ones here are prostitutes, a ball-busting agent (Ellen Barking error but I'll keep it), and an invisible wife apparently played by Lili Taylor. The men don't fair much better as they are mainly tropes we've seen before including in Fuqua's own "Training Day". What saves the film are all the actors, who are excellent, adding weight to their cliched roles. I recently revisited Brooklyn’s Finest (2009) on Tubi. The film follows three distinct cops whose paths are on the brink of intersecting. One officer is deep undercover, aiming for promotion and a way out before losing his sanity. Another is on the cusp of retirement and mentoring a rookie.
