    Touristy, can skip
Much more touristy than when I came here ten years ago. Not many locals frequent it. Limited food options and game stalls were ok only for little kids. The snacks were on the whole great, would like more choices.

Not the market it used to be
This was not the night market from the past. I haven’t visited in about 7 years and it’s completely changed. Most vendors are gone. A lot of shops are shuttered. I remember spending hours here and buying tons of items. Only a few shoe stores remain open. The only shop my daughter and I liked was a store selling keychains, luggage tags, pencil cases, and coin purses that resemble Sanrio characters. There’s also a junk store on the Main Street that sold stationary, snack foods, household goods etc that was fun to browse in. Other than that it was a bit disappointing.

    Even early Sunday evening…
…this area was really busy so I can only imagine what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night! Anyway, it’s a great place to wander round, part shopping district, part games arcade, part food market. I tried about five or six different things to eat and drink and each one was superb and VERY cheap! Photogenic spot too…

Lots of things to buy at Night Market
The Shihlin Night Market is Taipei's best-known evening entertainment. There are lots of things to buy, from garments to souvenirs. The Night Market has been cleaned up, it's quite safe. The food offering is tempting. I especially like the oyster omelets. The steaks are also good value. Buy the way, make sure you chose carefully, making exchanges may be difficult. Best way to get to the market is on the MRT Red Line, Jintan stop.

    Best after 6pm
My experience was only average but that's only because I visited around 5pm so many stallholders were still setting up. From my observations this market primarily focuses on families with children. So many stalls were games to win prizes. Plenty of food outlets around to keep everyone happy. Recommend visiting after 6pm.

    Losing its charm and excitement….
My last visit to the night market was in 2017. It was still full of vibes and excitement, mostly food, snacks and souvenirs. This time, retail and game stalls filled large portion of the area. Food sections had shrunk a lot and some stalls are shuttered most probably due to the pandemic. It did not bring much excitement anymore and I could give it a miss in the next trip. Rao He Night Market and XimenDing would be time well spent though.

A Must-Visit by MRT Red Line
It was my very first night market experience and I was truly Blown away by how vibrant and BIG the Shilin Night Market is. For my entire 3 hours there, I found that most traditional foods are located by the temple instead of the side that's by the MRT. There are many different kinds of stalls that sell non-food items as well. My favorite one is the game stall where people catch their own shrimps and grill them right away. If you are visiting Taipei this is a must visit for you!

    Avoid gotting there during holiday
We went to the market at 5pm a Tuesday in mid February. It was still be the Chinese New Year holiday. The night market is a narrow walk way with food stalks on both side. it was extremely crowded and we couldn't get closer to the food stalks. We didn't get any food there. We walked about 3 blocks from the market and went to a random restaurant and had some food. If you plan to go, avoid to go there during holiday.

It's probably no eaggeration that one of the main draws of visiting Taipei is the vibrant night market scene. With as many as thirty different night markets in and around the greater Taipei area, as well as over twenty different food stalls recognised by the Michelin guide as worthy of a bib gourmand award, there's plenty to keep visitors occupied for many a night.

The night market in the Shilin district is the largest, one of the most well-known and popular, and often the first one visitors head for. The main stalls are housed under the roof of the old Shilin market, but also includes stalls that have spread outwards to now occupy the neighbouring streets. The most famous cuisines on offer have been well documented in many guidebooks and online websites, and are well worth a try at least once even if it's not always to one's liking. But being adventurous can be a rewarding experience. Having already tried variants of the grilled sausages, we opted to skip these and instead tried the oyster omelette (not as nice as back home), the oyster vermicelli (extremely tasty, and a nice-sized portion), and the fried chicken pieces (wish it had been less oily and salty). For those in a shopping mood, there were also lots of shops that sold toys, souvenirs, clothes, and phone accessories. Be ready for the sounds, smells, and crowds, and also very full from the food.

Taipei is famous for its night markets and Shilin is probably one of the bigger ones. Lots of food and shops / stalls of all other sorts as well. It is quite crowded so get ready to rub shoulders. There is a myriad of food stalls along the streets as well as a food court in the basement; the food is very cheap and quite delicious. We tried food at many stalls and it was a great experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Taipei.
It is also easy to reach by public transport and also fairly fast to get there by taxi.

There's always something new to see at Shihlin Night Market; just what you buy depends on you. The market is very popular for women's clothing and also souvenirs. There is oodles of food to choose from, much of it is Taiwanese. The barbecued pork sausages are very tasty. I love the fruit juices, especially those made from local fruits, such as star fruit (carambola). The market is usually bustling at night, best way to get there is by MRT Tamshui- Xinyi (Red) Line, stopping at the Jiantan Station.

Bustling, over-hyped night market that battles crowds of locals and cannot deliver on service.
Food is not great and expensive as far as a market benchmark goes.
Too many people in a confined space queuing for mediocre food....not fun.
Rather explore local neighborhood markets that sell select delicacies...

I think the Taiwan night market is the best of place in the world. There are many wonderful foods, like cold noodles, sweet potato balls and bubble milk tea but some foods are expensive. Traffic is convenient, you can take bus, MRT or Uber. The only shortcoming is roads are too narrow, so I feel crowded but it still a great place.

Taipei's best-known night market is one of the island's top tourist attractions. The Shilin Night Market sells all sorts of things, from trinkets to fashionable clothing at bargain prices.. Many people visit the night market just for the food, for which it is deservedly famous world-wide. The oyster omelets can scarcely be matched anywhere. The stinky tofu is delicious, one you get past the smell. You can also get a tasty steak. By the way, the clothing is made for local people, who tend to be smaller than Westerners. Be prepared to bargain. Entry is fee. By the way, best way to get there is by MRT, the Jiantan MRT Red Line station is across the road from the market.

The Shilin Night Market was definitely fun and worth going to, but boy was I happy we had a local with us for the visit! It is a somewhat daunting maze of food and merchant stalls. The food is generally street food or fresh fruit, with plenty of cold beer to be found. The merchant stalls sell all types of very inexpensive goods (some of questionable origin) of all types. Certainly worth the visit, but go with somebody who knows their way around if you can!

There is a easily accessible place. It is nearby Taipei MRT JianTan station.
People always get crowded on weekend.
But the food and snacks’ prices are too expensive and there were some bad businesses sold high prices food to foreigners.

This is one of the best night market I will not missed out whenever I am in Taipei. It’s a place where you can buy fashionable clothes at a affordable price and of course plenty of good food.

The nearest MTR station to get there is Jian Tan station. Once you are there, just follow the crowd and you will find yourself in the night market.

Plenty of varieties of food you can find in Shihlin night market, from full meal to snacks you can easily get them along the streets. One of my favourite is the dice beef with rose salt and the famous XXXL chicken chop. There is a underground food court where you can have your meals in there. Tons of varieties of food for you to choose from.

Along the street, you can find nice street wear for your family. The range is from infant to adult. Even for your pets, you can get them some nice clothing. One of my must buy, is the ankle socks. Only $100 TWD for 3 pairs, and they comes with many colours and design.

There are also game store where you can play to win yourself a huge soft toy, like shooting of air gun.

You will definitely spent an enjoyable evening in the Shihlin night market.

There’s tons of street food, shopping, and many games you can play in this night market. It’s a little cramped so be mindful of what you bring and wear a facemask. The street food is good and this is a fantastic choice to have dinner at while you walk around the market.
