The least heard, but in my humble opinion, the strongest of Nicolai and Sakamoto's collaborations (fine margins, though - all are stellar). For me, this is where the tasteful, humming glitch of Alva Noto is best complemented by Sakamoto's minimalism, a frost-warmth dynamic of sound that leads to some of the most arresting work either have produced. Both versions of the Eno cover are standouts, but Summvs should absolutely be heard in its remastered form with the two additional bonus tracks, both of which are more melodic and as a result, make for a harder-hitting finale; Monomom in particular is one of my favourite pieces to come from the duo's entire creative partnership.

i think the most irritating element of creating glitch/adjacently technical music is how long it takes to get a noise that's worth putting on for more than a couple seconds. of course, i don't know nearly enough about synth patch programming or anything in that vein to properly comment on the technical side of these, but the main point of me bringing it up still stands - the prowess of carsten nicolai and ryuichi sakamoto is very palpable. all of these tracks could stand to be longer than they are, and given the track length here, that's certainly saying something. i don't know if i could call this my favorite album in the genre, i doubt it'd even be anyone's favorite of 2011 to begin with, but i really do have to stress that it's seriously impressive how well this holds up now. like, this is seriously better than a lot of newer ambient, reminding me of more cinematic works like the Made in Abyss soundtrack but surpassing them in most regards. this is very easy to envision putting on around, say, christmas or new year's day, just to bask in the uplifting environment of it. definitely have to listen to the two's collaborative discography in full, just to see if those expand upon this or tear what's on display here to shreds. quite good indeed.

"By This River" - what a marvellous track. I know it is from Eno's songbook, but doesn't mater, it's up there with all the "~oon" compositions of the duo.
