With her charm running out and with nowhere to go, Leslie is forced to return home to her former friends Nancy and Dutch (Allison Janney, Stephen Root). David Stratton The Australian Riseborough’s performance is very fine indeed, as she captures all the flaws and attributes of a woman who’s had a very tough life, a woman who has been her own worst enemy, but who somehow survives and endures. Rated: 4/5 Mar 10, 2023 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Riseborough’s performance is spectacular -- a high-wire act, from despair to repair and everywhere in between. Rated: 4/5 Mar 10, 2023 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle It’s a terrible movie, and Riseborough is unremarkable in it. Feb 13, 2023 Full Review Damon Wise Deadline Hollywood Daily This is the power of Riseborough’s work: she inhabits Leslie without an ounce of vanity, and as deserving as Leslie is of our pity, Riseborough makes sure she works for it. Sep 16, 2023 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan The screenplay is deeply vulnerable and provides a backstory of the events by revealing them slowly. Riseborough’s performance cannot be overstated. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Paul Kanieski KSQD Community Radio Here’s hoping Andrea Riseborough’s controversial but well deserved Oscar nod inspires lovers of mature cinema to seek it out. Kenneth G Where to begin... about such an astonishingly endearing yet difficult performance from Andrea Riseborough. I haven't seen an actress (or actor) carry a movie like this in ages... Effortlessly displaying tons of range, sometimes in a single scene. Inhabiting a character in a way that finds us pulling for her, even at her very worst. I, for one, can't wait for her acceptance speech! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review Melanie R Stunning performances, brilliantly draws us in to the desperate world of Leslie, totally absorbing and authentically portrayed. This film reminds why I LOVE MOVIES and what makes the viewing experience so compelling and rewarding. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Elaine T A very difficult topic handled by an outstanding cast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Lee C Excellent performances and a pretty good story, but quite slow and boring at times. It could easily have been twenty minutes shorter. Viewers don't need to see so much of someone being messed up to understand that she's messed up. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Michael M a riotous gem of a film! this little independent film never got its rightful recognition from all the awards ceremonies with the exception of the academy awards and rightly so. andrea riseborough is absolutely mesmerising as a mother struggling to save herself from a lifelong addiction with alcohol. it is this struggle along with her character's determination to rehabilitate herself primarily driven by her love for her son that enables riseborough to fully disappear into the role and allow the audience to believe in her pain and struggles and to secretly cheer her on toward a better future. a phenomenal performance by andrea riseborough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Alec B The movie takes an interesting narrative middle road where it's neither misery porn nor overly sentimental. In short it earns the redemption arc for the central character. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
