With the start of a new fantasy baseball week comes another waiver wire story.

Let’s take a look at some of the most-added MLB players in week 8 of the fantasy season. We’ll focus on hitters only in this story, with FantasySP’s Daniel Hepner covering most of the heavily-added pitching options in streaming stories.

Abraham Toro Fantasy Outlook

Toro is enjoying a career season with Oakland. Across 39 games so far, Toro has a .299 average and .351 on-base percentage.

Toro has eight doubles, one triple and four homers among his 41 total hits. He’s driven in 17 runs, scored 20 times, stole one base, walked seven times and struck out on 26 occasions.

The primary infielder (second, third, shortstop) has been especially hot of late, with eight hits over his past four games played. Toro has one homer and double in that timeframe, with three RBIs and four runs scored.

Because Toro can play several positions, that makes him a bit more valuable in fantasy leagues. If he isn’t eligible at a couple spots already, he should get it soon. He’s hitting well enough right now to start in most leagues, and once he cools off, that position versatility makes him a pretty solid bench option, who can either fill in when a regular starter is injured or getting a day off. Something else to keep in mind with Toro is that he could be traded to a contender if he keeps hitting fairly, and that could bump his fantasy value up a bit.

Davis Schneider Fantasy Outlook

Schneider is enjoying a pretty productive start to his 2024 season with Toronto. Across his first 33 games, Schneider has a .278 average and .383 on-base percentage.

Schneider has eight doubles and four homers among his 25 total hits, has driven in 15 runs and scored 16 times. He has two stolen bases, 13 walks and 28 strikeouts.

The 25-year-old hit .276 with a .404 OBP across 35 games a season ago, so his average is pretty similar, while his OBP is just a bit lower. Schneider is providing some pop and driving in/scoring plenty of runs.

He’s played left field and second base this season, and should have eligibility at both those spots soon (if he doesn’t already). He’s hitting enough right now to possibly start for plenty of fantasy teams. If you can’t fit him into your starting lineup, he’s a great backup option and could maybe turn into a trade chip down the line.

Eddie Rosario Fantasy Outlook

Rosario got off to a rough start this season, but is trending in the right direction now. He’s got just a .174 average and .252 OBP across 31 games so far this season.

He’s doubled three times and homered on five occasions among his 16 total hits. He’s driven in 10 runs, scored 14 times, stolen six bases, walked 10 times and struck out 23 times.

Over his past five games, Rosario has seven hits, including three homers and a double. He’s driven in four, scored seven times, walked five times and struck out just twice. Rosario also has three stolen bases over that span.

So while the season numbers are rough, Rosario has great numbers of late and could be started until he cools off. Rosario is likely eligible to play all three outfield spots in your league. He’s more of a short-term waiver wire option, but could remain on fantasy teams as long as he doesn’t go into any long hitting droughts.

Thairo Estrada Fantasy Outlook

Estrada has played in 41 games this season, owning a .247 average and .274 OBP so far. He’s been good of late, with four hits in his past three starts.

Estrada has seven doubles, six homers and a triple among his 37 total hits this season. He’s also got 21 RBIs, 17 runs scored, a stolen base, five walks and 31 strikeouts.

His average could be better, and with a career mark of .260, I expect it to. Estrada’s OBP is really low this season, and he’s got just a .311 mark for his career. He can provide some extra-base hits, RBIs and runs for your team, but there’s also probably some more well-rounded fantasy players available.

He’s only played second base this season, but might have shortstop eligibility (and maybe some OF eligibility) from previous seasons. If he’s only eligible at shortstop, I’d probably look elsewhere for fantasy help. If he’s eligible at a couple spots, Estrada is an OK depth option, but again, I think there’s more useful fantasy players out there.

Carlos Correa Fantasy Outlook

It’s weird to see a bigger name like Correa on a waiver wire list, but after a down 2023 season, he’s not as beloved as a fantasy player this season.

Across 23 games this season, Correa is now hitting .275, with a .379 OBP. Those are both solid marks, and are better than his career marks. He’s also doubled six times and homered twice among his 22 total hits, driven in 10 runs and scored 15 times. Correa has 14 walks and 17 strikeouts.

Missing a decent amount of games sort of has Correa flying under the radar right now, as does his low home run total. His numbers are solid overall for his amount of games played, and he’s been really good of late too. Correa has five hits over the past four games, with three extra-base hits, two RBIs, six runs and more walks (2) than strikeouts (1).

He should only be eligible at shortstop for fantasy purposes, but the way he’s hitting right now, Correa is worth an add. He can start until he cools off, and then be a pretty solid backup option. Correa might also be a fantasy trade option if his numbers keep up for another month or so.

Leody Taveras Fantasy Outlook

Taveras is pretty much continuing the numbers he’s delivered his entire career, but has heated up at the plate to get some waiver wire love.

In 39 games played, Taveras has a .258 average and .329 OBP. He’s doubled seven times, tripled once and homered three times among his 34 total hits, driven in 10 runs and scored 20 times. Taveras has four steals, 14 walks and 26 strikeouts to his name.

Taveras is a career .246 hitter, but has topped that mark considerably in back-to-back seasons. His career .246 OBP has also been easily topped the past two years. Taveras’ power numbers and RBIs are a bit down, but he’s on pace for more runs.

Over the past five games, Taveras has five hits, including two home runs. He’s scored five runs, driven in three, walked twice, stolen two bases and struck out five times.

Taveras is only owned in about 25% of leagues right now, which seems fair seeing his extra-base hits and RBIs are down. But at the same time, he’s still got a decent average and OBP, and plenty of runs scored, so he’s also a usable fantasy option. I like him best as a backup fantasy OF, filling in when a regular starter is hurt or resting, but he also could be a starting option in the short term as he’s going pretty well at the plate.
