See all your opportunities to see them live below!Just got home from seeing Heilung in Portland, OR at the Keller Auditorium; and, while the performers were excellent, I think the venue and the _effect_ the venue had on the audience was terrible. Heilung is - more so than the average - a reciprocal experience between performers and audience, one where there's a visceral and visible exchange. The Keller, on the other hand, is where you sit politely and watch Hamilton or Michael Pollan (actual shows I've seen) and clap and hoot at the proper appointed times. Oil and water. People eventually did stand and move about a bit, but it was far too late - the show was almost over - and the bolted down seats certainly kept the expressiveness to a dull simmer.
Great group. Good venue. Bad pairing. Seeing them outdoors, under the stars, in a natural amphitheater with awesome acoustics is the way. Hopefully I'll get to do that in the not-to-distant future.
This show was a complete blast. Though they have started 30 mins later (due to the fact that people were still comming in) and there was no warmup music (waiting for an hour and a half with just birds singing and water flowing), the wait was well worth it. Everything, starting from the musical part all the way to the show part was spot on. Mezmerizing when it needed to, making you angry when required and just a humongous blast of energy during the last song, Heilung has shown complete dedication and understanding how to appeal to any listener.
Heilung is fantastic! Amazing show! The visuals and constant drum beat were entrancing. One way to describe it would be to say "Pagan Church". I've never seen a show like this. 100% original. So happy they came to the US. Loved it! I can't wait to see them again!
