Banyumas

Banyumas or “Banjoemas” is a regency in the southwestern part of Central Java province and the capital is Purwokerto.

The term Banyumasan is also used as an adjective referring to the culture, language and peoples of larger Banyumas area. The language of Banyumasan are of Austronesian origin, and is usually considered to be a dialect of Javanese, but significantly different with common Java language, it been called as Ngapak Language.

Banyumas regency was born in April, 6 1582. The first founder was Raden Joko Kahiman then inaugurated by the first Regent as known as ADIPATI MARAPAT or ADIPATI MRAPAT.

This regency is bounded with Brebes regency in north, Purbalingga regency, Banjarnegara regency and Kebumen regency in east, and Cilacap regency in south and west. There is the highest mountain in Central Java, which is Slamet mountain, it is located in the north of the area. By the existence of this mountain, Banyumas is considered as potential area, because there are lot of benefits that people can get from the mountain.

Banyumas has significant culture and art that different with Javanese culture, even though the roots are particularly the same.

In Banyumas, there are lot of tourism destinations that mostly come from the nature sightseeing like waterfall or curug, lakes, and caves, like: Baturaden, Pancuran Pitu, Pancuran Telu, SaraBadak cave, Curug Gede, Curug Ceheng, Curug Belot, Curug Cipendok, Baturaden camping ground, Serayu River Voyage, Baturraden Adventure Forest and many more.
