Any recommendations for space-themed albums or songs?
I love things like "3:47 EST," "Ziltoid the Omniscient," and "Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino." The concept doesn't have to be too strong, but I love a good concept.

Also Sprach Zarathustra by Deodato
Space is the Place by Sun Ra
Space Oddity by Bowie
Definitely Space Oddity.
And a pair of Weird Al songs...The Saga Begins (to the tune of American Pie) and Yoda (Lola).
W Weird Al
Powerman 5000 has a pretty cool cover of Space Oddity
Did not expect to see someone plug Sun Ra. And yes, its bitchin.
The whole rise and fall of Ziggy stardust and the spiders from Mars album
Space is the Place is also an amazing film.

I'm hijacking this one to recommend Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling; it is also known as "Space Oddity 2" and I have loved it with all my heart since first hearing at age 12. Fun fact, it was originally in German!
Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized
Yessssssss
A lot of old Muse is space-themed!!
Also, Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson is largely space themed and his best album imo
Yes! Space Dementia off their Origin of Symmetry album which is a great example of space rock. ☺️
I wish there more songs that sounded like that. It got me into muse and I was disappointed that maybe only Take A Bow had a similar vibe. It’s a very specific feeling
Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Not a coherent concept, but plenty of sci-fi and space themed songs from Monster Magnet.
Astronomy by Blue Öyster Cult
Every time this gets posted I always recommend two of my favorite stoner/doom/sludge bands.
Spaceslug
Kal-El
Dude what about Sleep - Marijuanauts theme. That’s some good stoner rock.
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence (2012)
The Parallax I is an EP called Hypersleep Dialogues (2011). Full concept of "The Parallax Saga" can be found here.
Love Devin Townsend btw.
All of my favorite space albums have been named. Just want you to know you have amazing taste.
Thanks king. 🤘
I don't know the stuff you mentioned but for space themed I immediately thought of StarSet, one of my favorite bands, maybe that will tickle your Fancy?
The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets - Slave Ship
Pain - Black Knight Satellite
Dope Stars Inc. - Riding UFOs
Ayria - Red Shift
Darkest of the Hillside Thickets are terrific!
Failure - Fantastic Planet
Specifically “Another Space Song” but the whole album is terrific
Have to add Hum if you add Failure, both very underrated grungy shoegaze space rock bands in the 90s.
That album blew my mind when I discovered it in the summer of 2009 and I was lucky enough to see them play the whole thing live back in 2016
Oh wow I just mentioned Failure and was surprised to see someone else actually mention them. Such a great album but pretty depressing.
Aaaaah, I was gonna recommend that, but glad to see it mentioned! And while it’s an all around great album, Another Space Song is definitely my favorite 👍
I love the planets by Holst especially Mars and Jupiter. John Williams for sure took inspiration for Star Wars.
Jupiter is fantastic 😊
Are you familiar with Star Wars and A Stereo Space Odyssey? I bought the LP in 1979 (age 12) in a bargain bin for two dollars. My mom pointed out that it wasn’t the soundtrack, which was printed in small type in the upper left hand corner of the the album cover; I wasn’t deterred, I had money to buy it and I did. I “defiantly” listened to the whole album, instead of just side A (the Star Wars side) as my mom believed, and I found some lovely music on side B. I love the beginnings of the Imperial March in Imperial Attack.
I’ll have to listen!
Go listen to some Pink Floyd. You'll feel like a cosmonaut. In particular,
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun -- Pink Floyd
Cirrus Minor -- Pink Floyd
Astronomy Domine -- Pink Floyd
I also suggest listening to their live instrumental backing for the BBC broadcast of the Apollo 11 (the first) landing on the moon. There's some talking in the track by the announcer, but it is definitely "space-themed," given it is space history at this point! It is called Moonhead.
Definitely the song Astronomy Domine !!!
Cygnus X-1 by Rush
Mothership connection by parliament!
David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars
Hum is generally all around space themed but especially their sophomore album ‘You’d Prefer an Astronaut’. it’s a fucking wicked album please listen to it.
Failure - Fantastic Planet is really awesome as well
Although it's off downward is heavenward "Dreamboat" always reminds me of the scene in contact when she meets the alien that is her dad.
2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY

LOST IN SPACE

Stellaris is a video game that's entirely space based. Maybe you'll like the music from the game.
Definitely not a favorite, but I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up this space oddity; it's an album produced by L. Ron Hubbard, of all people (et al.) called "Space Jazz." It's, uh, something, all right.

Mars, Bringer of War - Gustav Holst - written in 1913]
https://youtu.be/cXOanvv4plU?si=NPD7WgXWTjmjr9NA
One of seven songs in The Planets suite.
And the inspiration for Star Wars music.
Man or Astro-Man? has plenty of good stuff, as well The Space Cossacks (their album Tsar Wars is a blast) and The Boss Martians.
Rush 2112
STARSET’s entire discography
I'M GOING TO SEE THEM NEXT WEEK AAAA
Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath
Starset.
They have band lore, and their whole theme is space/otherworldly-ness/dont let technology take over humanity-ness. Their music videos all tell a story. They’re wonderful.
The Star Wars soundtrack
Mechanical Animals
Intro to time by pink floyd and spac oddity by David Bowie, 2 timeless classics
Space EP by The Devil Wears Prada
Look up SpaceFolk or Space Banjo/Deep Space Banjo/ Space Western mixes, an oddly perfect sound showcasing the faintest bit of humanity left, lost out there in space.
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized
Astronomy Domine, by Pink Floyd and/or by Voivod
The Doctor Who theme song and variations
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, The Rolling Stones

An album set in space as the setting even if none kf the sings are really about space. Entertaining and has the English VA for Spike Speigel.
The soundtrack to Velvet Goldmine always seemed very spacey to me
Contact- Daft Punk
Love this
One of their very best songs ❤️
Well Sun Ra was from Saturn, so his massive discography fits.
Space is the place.
Future Folk is hilarious and they made their own movie.
Pink Floyd is very chill. especially Animals
They do have Astronomy Dominae.
Tomita: The Planets https://youtu.be/Uv707GLbFGw?si=WrfkKmE875y7wZxx
Ziltoid the Omniscient is the #1 answer. Casualties of Cool is not space themed, but I've always considered it as "Space Country-Western Music." Theres so much more than just that feel though. Both are truly great albums but Casualties is my GAAT! Devin Townsend is just the best.
Space - "Magic Fly" (1977)
2000 Light Years From Home - it's a Stones song, but I know the Monster Magnet cover best. MM also has Space Lord and Last Patrol.
Powerman 5000's entire album Tonight The Stars Revolt is fantastic.
Ziltoid! Yeeeeesssssssss.
Not strictly space, but sci-fi, the Deltron 3030 albums are aces.
Deltron 3030
Astronaut by Gregory Alan Isakov
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r3xGsCx70n8
Very sleepy but very spacey and beautiful 😊
Queen drummer Roger Taylor's "Fun In Space"
"'39" by Queen, Brian May's ode to time dilation during space travel
"Planet Claire," "53 Miles West of Venus" by the B-52's
Holiday on the Moon, Love & Rockets
2 Wicky, by Hooverphonic, has a nice space vibe and revolves around the number of the sun.
I have no idea what you’re actually looking for. But Space Song by Beach House is versatile and awesome.
