I personally liked this movie despite the negative reviews it was nice to watch a horror film with an entirely different and sinister story line. I surely would not take it to church and watch it either folks but this is not about religion it is only entertainment nothing is to be taken out of context from movies, games, or music really people should not view these things as tools to influence others because they really do not have that intent with the exception of a documentary or reality type TV people must not take things as serious as they do. I think the problem with this world is that someone says or does something without the intent to cause any harm mentally and then some person takes it to heart a bit too much and this causes triggers a violent reaction. I can not stress enough it is only entertainment if you watch a horror movie it is not the intent to worship the devil it is just the intent to be scared or entertained no different then riding that roller coaster at an amusement park. And this movie is a good entertaining horror flick maybe not what you would expect but I think that's what provided me the good vibe for this movie was the fact that it was totally different then what I had expected and the effects were rather interesting.

I loved the action, special effects, plot twists, and in the end the beautiful anna sophia robb being the angel of God on Earth come to slay the wicked was simply awesome! I absolutely loved the plot and the acting and sound were superb. Hillary Swank was excellent as well. They could not have cast these two better.

I think Idris Elba was mis-cast -- probably to politically-correctly couterbalance the first part of the film where Hillary Swank's family was killed by machete for voodoo reasons in Africa by blacks... Can't have blacks being the voodoo bad guys and that's it. Come to think of it, the whole film was aimed at the plantation / deep traditional south types as being just as voodoo as the Africans -- a sort of spiritual affirmative-action? There is only one problem. We know the average IQ of Africans is around 67, but for American whites the average is over 100... so that part was hard to swallow. Africans are way more voodoo than southern whites ever dreamed of being. (That's why they turn the Catholicism that colonialists forced on them into Santeria..). So what's up with that? Lets stop beating up on southerners and promoting negative stereotypes that are untrue. Pretty nitpicky, I know... At least it was not as blatantly political as "Villiage of the Damned" or "Schindlers List" or something. This part of the review can be chalked up to my personal views though -- I HATE POLITICS. Why does it ALWAYS have to rear it's ugly head in my movies? I don't like feeling like I'm being taught something at a Norman Lear festival (you know, mr. TV-shows-are-for-social-engineering himself.) I don't like commercials, not even more subtle 2-hour ones for anyone's non-universal interests or greed. There. Rant done.

Other than that, I truly do not understand the negative reviews (except by maybe religious or southern religious people...?). This was a great movie -- suspenseful, gripping, powerful. Great acting. Great sound. Great special effects. If you liked Anna Sophia Robb in "Because of Winn-Dixie" and "Bridge to Terabithia" then you will love her in this too as an angel of God. She is great.

Many people were mixed on this film when it first came out. Some believed it was swankier than your average Omen. Others found it repugnant while there were people who viewed it as catnip for the religious zealots who get easily frothy-mouthed whenever their precious sermons from the Book of Leviticus get "defied" or just "disrespected" and stayed away as a result. Personally, I'm on the fence. A big reason why is something, let's just say, that makes it different from The Omen and The Exorcist. Anyway, the plot...... LSU Professor (originally UNC at Chapel Hill in the original script for this film) Katherine Winter has been quite busy in the skeptic business. Ever since she started, she's investigated 48 miraculous occurrences with 48 scientific explanations explaining away the religious phoneme. However, she and her assistant, Ben, are soon hired to solve a mystery down in Haven, Louisiana (originally set to take place in a small town in Connecticut in the mentioned script), where there are freaky occurrences that are frightening the believers down there. And why wouldn't they be? The occurrences are, after all, basing themselves off of the Ten Plagues God sent down onto the Pharaoh and his followers to let Moses and the God-worshipping slaves go. Understandably, Katherine, who is deep in atheism and deep into it like it's PTSD after the death of her husband and daughter (which she is most distraught about), is initially disbelieving that the occurrences are Biblical-related while Ben, who starts to get reduced to window dressing by the time the 2nd tribute to the 10 Plagues rolls around, immediately starts to view the events as Biblical related. Guess which of them is right. I insist for by the time the 50th minute of this 99-minute movie rolls around, that question will be bound to be answered and one will be left wondering at least one of the following questions. What plague's going to come next? What visual tableau will the FX department bring out in full now? Will Katherine and Ben live long enough to see the end? And will this be worth 99 minutes of my life? You can be the judge of that, people. It's up to you.

Les films biblique comme celui-ci sont rares mais il existent, il y en as un de temps en temps qui sortent.
Les films Satanique sont eux légions surtout ces dernières années, par contre tous ne se finissent pas avec l'aide de Dieux, ou montrent la crédibilité de son existence, celui-ci fait exception a cette règle.
En général les films bibliques sont justes des films historique dans le fond, par contre celui-ci est un Thriller fantastique au Scénar sotant des sentier connue, et doubler d'une grosse prod signé J.Silver&R.Zemeckis (ceux qui connaissent pas le producteur ds Armes Fatales ou le réal ds Back to the Future ?) qui ne manque pas de moyen.
Même si l'équipe a subie le fameux ouragan Katrina ce qui a juste rallenti le tournage, et la diversité des décors de fin, malgré le lieux (la Louisiane, la Floride ou la Nouvelle Orléans me rappel pu).
Sinon pour parler du film qui raconte l'histoire de 2 chercheurs qui démystifie les miracles et qui ont tous les 2 leurs histoires, surtout le perso joué par H.Swank (Million Dollar Baby/Le Dalhia Noir) qui est l'héroine du film.
Est a la recherche des 10 plais d'Egypte sur une petite ville, qui serait causé par une petite fille de 12ans, et qui elle est joué par une Anniasophia Rob (qu'on peut voir sur l'affiche très réussie) très convaincante ds le côté mystérieux.
Lié de près a celui de Katherine Winter (H.Swank), mais No Spoil !
. Un film au scénario plus recherché que celui qu'on pourrai attendre de l'histoire de base, un réal du nom de Stephen Hopkins qui n'a jamais fait de mauvais films, une distribution très réussie dont Stephen Rea (La Compagnie des Loups/ Underwold 4) dans un rôle a part, et un final des plus génial !
Que je ne spoileraie pas + mais qui mélange le Satanisme pour un (des?) retournement de situation plus que bien trouvé (je sais je me répète).
Pour finir de très bon bonus sur ce Dvd dont un de 15/20mn sur les Dix Plais d'Egypte et leurs réalité scientifique raconté par des savants et prêtre, très intéressant.
