Happy Bank Holiday (again)! This week we’re getting lost in a book at the Festival of Libraries, toasting to Runaway Brewery on their 10th birthday and enjoying some ultimate relaxation with The Wellness Hub.

As part of the Festival of Libraries, 500 copies of Konnie Huq’s Fearless Fairy Tales will be hidden in and around the green spaces of Manchester’s brilliant libraries.
In this shake up of classic tales you won’t meet damsels in distress, instead you will be captivated by characters like Sleeping Brainy, whose dream is to become the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Those that follow the clues will get a copy of the book and they will also have the chance to meet Konnie during the festival, and find out more about her writing and days as a Blue Peter presenter.

Örme host a Guest Chef Night with Will Webster, head chef at the Shibden Mill Inn in Halifax. Shibden Mill Inn is number 17 in the Estrella Damm UK Top 50 Gastro Pub Awards 2024 and also boasts Two AA Rosettes. So it’s absolutely and most certainly one to watch.
Örme in Urmston isn’t doing too shabbily either, of course, and this six course tasting menu will comprise of three dishes cooked by Will and three dishes cooked by Örme’s chef patron Jack Fields.
Every Picture Tells A Story – Stanley Chow at The Edge
To celebrate artist Stanley Chow’s functionally-titled exhibition A Random Selection of Illustrations featuring People from Film, Stage and TV, the revered artist and illustrator will be in conversation with BBC 5 Live’s Chris Warburton on Thursday 30 May, the final day of the exhibition. Chris will be asking questions about how and why each illustration in the exhibition was conceived.
Each portrait that Stanley discusses on the night with Chris will be signed, and some lucky members of the audience will be randomly selected to win the prints, as well as ask him questions directly.
TC & The Groove Family at Band On The Wall
TC & The Groove Family head to Band On The Wall for a very special headline show on Thursday 30 May. Runaway Brewery 10th Birthday
Runaway Brewery is turning 10 years old and the team behind it are planning an extra special celebration of beer at their Brewery Taproom on Astley Street in central Stockport. On Friday and Saturday, 30 lines of Runaway’s greatest hits and International beers from Cafe Beer Moth will be spread across three bars throughout the brewery, taproom and courtyard garden. On Sunday, they will host a relaxed closing party with cake, jazz and reggae.
Food will be provided by the folk at Honest Crust with help from Reddish Ales, with veggie and vegan options also available. Squawk Brewing will be providing the soundtrack, with live DJs spinning Friday and Saturday.
The Eagles at Co-op Live
Legendary band The Eagles head to Co-op Live this week as part of their global Long Goodbye tour. You can catch them at the recently opened venue on 31 May and 1, 4, 7 and 8 June.
Cash Flip Book Launch at Smolensky Gallery
Head down to Smolensky Gallery on Friday 31 May for an exciting evening of art, creativity and networking. Celebrate the launch of Manchester-based filmaker Oluwafemi Adebayo’s new flipbook and two-part music video project, featuring artist Benjiii TG. There will also be DJ sets from Baby B, W4V£S and JCZEE. The cashflip flipbook is a physical extension of the music video, and will be available for consumers to purchase.
Corella at O2 Ritz
Manchester’s homegrown boys Corella have announced a UK headline tour, as well as a string of festival dates to support their debut album Once Upon A Weekend. Following the recent release of single Drifting, Corella will play at the O2 Ritz in Manchester on Friday 31 May.
Function Room at Eastern Bloc
Function Room returns to Eastern Bloc in the Northern Quarter on Friday 31 May, getting the old crew back together. DJ par excellence Jim Bane will be joined by ex-staff members Mark ‘Turbo’ Turner, famed for his benchmark residency at the legendary Orbit in Morley, and Karl Roscoe. It shall be large.
Bury Pride 2024
Bury hosts its annual Pride celebration on Saturday 1 June 2024. The all-day event will revolve around The Walking Parade, where local community groups, businesses, artists and bands march through the town centre streets. This year’s festival will also feature musical acts including Kriss James, Wolfy and Kelsie J.

Stockport Pride
Stockport Pride returns to the town centre this week in celebration of equality, diversity and the borough’s LGTBQ+ community. The day will kick off with the annual Pride Parade, which snakes through the streets from 12pm. Those in the parade will assemble in the Underbanks, near Robinsons Brewery, at 11.30am.
