Lunch with a view was one of my favorite things of the trip. I also love history and enjoyed walking around the buildings. Ect. My son was worried the cannon would be loud. - Travel25346533585893 contributionsMackinac Island State Park is a Hidden Treasure. Most people have never even heard of Mackinac Island, let alone it's Wonderful State Park. Mackinac Island does not allow any Motorvehicles.
Getting areound is either walking, a Bicycle, and Horse and Buggy.
To get to Mackinac Island you must take a Ferry.

The hotel gave us coupons for Sheplers, but I wanted to ride the Classic Ferry, which is a 40 minute ride one way. I rode the Ferry for the first time in 1965. I have ridden almost every year since then. I was warned they have older boats that might break down, but the day I rode everything was working fine. What I love about the Classic Ferry is that I can ride standing up, which I prefer. All of the fast boats make you stay seated, because they are a rougher ride. - tahitisteveChicago, IL82 contributionsAmazing 360 view of the stars at night. Was a 30 minute walk from our town hotel. Its about 400 feet up so there is some effort and a lot of wooden stairs in one part so be prepared. But don't let that stop you. I am almost 60 and made it 2 nights in a row without issue. Worth it! The fort itself is an awesome view of the past. Its small but very interesting. But we went for the stars and we were.not let down. AMAZING. The milky way was as bright as I have ever seen. There are mosquitoes so be prepared for that. We stayed up there for hours just gazing at the heavens. The walk down was nice. 20 minutes or so. The Museum and Gift shop were closed. Beautiful art spanning local artists and historical art. Loved the maps depicting the variations on what the Great Lakes looked like. Art studio on the basement that had activities for children!
