Darrell G. Roy - April 28, 1941 - April 17, 2024

Departed: 04/17/2024 (Stoughton)
Obituary Preview: STOUGHTON - Darrell G. Roy left us on April 17, 2024. He was born to Opal and Armand Roy on April 28, 1941, in Concordia, Kan. The oldest brother of Rex (Sharon) Roy and Bruce (Vicki) Roy, he was a rebellious teen who loved to drive too fast on the long, straight Kansas roads around his hometown of Clyde and live up to his French-Canadian heritage.
Darrell met and married his bride of 60 years, Judith (Anderson), in her hometown of Crystal Falls, Mich. This unlikely duo found their way to Stoughton where they planted and raised Karen (Jerry) Johanning and Jim (Amy) Roy, and doted on grandchildren, Anika (fiancé Holden Hartley), Bridget and Lucy Roy, and Max and Elin Johanning.
Ol’ Blue (as he was affectionally known as) welded the gas mains that heat our houses and drove the truck that paved our roads. He swept Judy off her feet with a smooth waltz and lively polka and was a “cast iron dancer” with a strong stomp at family events. He was a storyteller, gardener, bowler, union man, stock-car lover (Gentlemen, start your engines!), published author and sometimes political activist. There’s a tiny sigh of relief he’ll miss the next presidential election. He and Judy spent 19 happy winters in Florida shrimping and storytelling some more. Last but certainly not least, he was a wine maker. With a twinkle in his eye came the promise “I’ll bring a gallon” to the birthday, wedding, funeral, dinner or annual Roy Labor Day weekend at the Minnesota State Fair. Many a worthy adversary fell to the “home squeezins.”
Please join us in a toast to Darrell on Saturday, May 4,2024, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at HALVERSONS, 1965 Barber Drive, Stoughton. There will be a private family funeral at St. Ann’s Church and burial at the Town of Dunn Cemetery prior to the storytelling. No flowers please; memorials to the American Cancer Society would be a donation well spent.

Cathy Ann Faris - June 17, 1948 - March 28, 2024

Departed: 03/28/2024 (Stoughton)
Obituary Preview: STOUGHTON- Cathy Ann (Elliott) Faris entered into heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 28, 2024.  Cathy was born on June 17, 1948.  She often reflected on the happiness she felt as a child growing up with her loving mother and father, Alyce and William, and her beloved brother Kenneth and sister Sandra.
It was clear early on that Cathy had a special devotion and responsibility to family.  In addition to the close-knit family in which she was raised, she had an extended family of older siblings, Myron, Ralph, and LaDonna.  Even at a young age, it was apparent to all that Cathy possessed both a calm and wisdom, and as such, gave selflessly and tirelessly of her time to aid in the care and upbringing of her many nieces and nephews, many of which continued to lean on her to this very day.
Cathy graduated from Madison Central High School in 1966 and was joined in marriage to William Faris on July 27, 1968.  Her early married life consisted of a fervent and joyful dedication to raising their three children, Angela (William) Radtke, Jeanette (Craig) Luther, and Billy (Dawn).  She did so with grace and a loving kindness that continued throughout all of her days.  Her joy and true love of family grew even deeper when she became a grandmother.  Cathy adored her precious grandchildren, Joseph and Victoria, Archer, Elliott and Lauren, Connor and Kennedy.  She was also blessed to have become a great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren.
While Cathy lived a fulfilling life raising her family, she eventually moved on to enjoy a successful career with the Promega Corporation.  More recently, Cathy volunteered and then subsequently worked at Livsreise, the Norwegian Heritage Center in her hometown of Stoughton, Wisconsin, which afforded her the opportunity to explore her own Norwegian heritage and delve into her passion for genealogy and history.  She relished working with the many people who came to visit the center, sharing her wealth of knowledge as well as assisting them in their own genealogical journeys.  She furthered that desire through her work and volunteer efforts with the State Historical Society and various local museums and board memberships.
Cathy is confident that she did not leave anyone behind in her passing but that she merely moved on to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She often reflected upon this privately in her heart, as well as openly for anyone who wished to hear the good news of Christ’s salvation.  While she will be missed by her many friends and her loving family, including those at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, she would want us to remember it is not goodbye forever, just for now.  Cathy knows that God’s promise to her will most certainly be revealed when he reunites her with those whom she loves, and she will be among the first to welcome us into His kingdom with jubilation and celebration.
