He was a member of The Headhunters, a jazz-funk fusion band, from 1975 through 1978.
Parliament-Funkadelic[]
He was a member of Parliament-Funkadelic from 1978 through 2008.
Red Hot Chili Peppers[]
He served as the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers after the death of Hillel Slovak in 1988. However, he only played an estimated three or four shows with the band before being quickly replaced by John Frusciante. The only song he recorded with the band was "Blues for Meister", which was released in 1994 (six years after it's recording) in the Out in L.A. compilation album.
