Albert Nobbs tells a worthy story with an outstanding performance at its core, even if the end result is often somewhat less than the sum of its admirable parts.

Roger Moore Tribune News Service Close, in one of her greatest performances, is quiet, still, almost invisible to those around her. It's not a stunt or an impersonation, it's a perfect realization of what someone in her position might endure just to eat. Rated: 3/4 Jan 3, 2013 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Thee finished work appears fatally stranded between feminist polemic and accidental magic realism. Rated: 2/5 Apr 27, 2012 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Here's a film that looks good, has production values to die for and an all-star cast who mostly make their mark. Rated: 3/5 Apr 27, 2012 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine It is rather sad, therefore, that an interesting premise seems rather rushed and lacking storytelling skill despite some excellent central performances. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Felicia Feaster Charleston City Paper At its core, Albert Nobbs is a portrait of a man paralyzed by solitude in this often powerful, aching portrait of the larger human condition of loneliness. Kyle M A period drama that embraces identity under convoluting sexuality being eventfully intriguing, then elevated as a performative showcase through Close's experienced, committed passion with typical grace but less convincing than McTeer's exceptional embodiment. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a worthy story with an outstanding performance from Glenn Close however the totality of the film is less than the sum of its parts in this case. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I could barely watch any of this movie. Glenn Close as a man was just too disturbing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review william k Heart-wrenching period drama, overall well made in all departments, with sensationally good performances by Close and McTeer. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member a nice little thinker film with some great acting and some odd acting but worth watching for people who appreciate good films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Albert Nobbs is nothing less than a deeply saddening but intriguing film. Glenn Close once again proves her versatility and emotional graciousness that she attacks each character with. It's an obvious movie that requires little brain power but if it strikes a nerve with You, as it did with me, then you'll appreciate what was achieved.
