Tom's attitude towards his dad

QUESTION

I was just rewathcing and realized I've always been a little confused on Tom's desire to keep the farm/stay on earth. We seem him be pretty okay with the fact that Coop is leaving, and he seems okay with it later in life. He even mentions how he wanted to name Jessie, "Coop" but his wife said next time, and then their second son is named Coop. However, once we get to see the kids back on Earth Tom seems to hate his father for leaving and values their grandpa more. I've always kind of assumed it was after the death of Jessie his son he just became a pecimist and maybe blames his dad for jessies death in a way? Or maybe he just feels super connected to the farm because he thought that what his dad wanted? What do you guys think?
