JERSEY claimed team gold in the NatWest Island Games women’s tennis event – beating Gotland in straight sets in the decisive doubles rubber.
Having knocked out top seeds Isle of Man in Sunday’s semi-final, Jersey went into Monday’s gold-medal match as slight favourites against the fourth seeds.
Tash Forrest got Jersey off to the perfect start with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tzvetelina Havrén but Gotland levelled the tie when Melliz Petkova-Mustafa beat Antonija Sokic by the same margin.
The pair of Forrest and Sokic teamed up for the doubles rubber – defeating Havrén and Petkova-Mustafa 6-1, 6-4 to secure Jersey’s third gold of the Games.
