Rt Hon Sir Oliver Letwin

Former Member of Parliament, a Fellow of the Legatum Institute, senior adviser to the Faraday Institution, Vice President of the Great Britain China Centre, and a Visiting Professor at KCL and the University of Reading

Sir Oliver Letwin was the MP for West Dorset from 1997 to 2019. He held a number of shadow cabinet roles before 2010, including as Shadow Home Secretary and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was one of the architects of the 2010-15 Coalition Government, serving in the cabinet as Minister for Government Policy and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, a position he held in the Cameron cabinet until 2016. 

Oliver studied at the University of Cambridge, obtaining a PhD in 1982. He was subsequently  a Procter Fellow at Princeton University and a Research Fellow at Darwin College Cambridge. Before entering Parliament, he was a member of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit and a Managing Director of NM Rothschild. He is currently a fellow of the Legatum Institute, senior adviser to the Faraday Institution, Vice President of the Great Britain China Centre, and a Visiting Professor at KCL and the University of Reading. He has published a number of books and articles on philosophy, political theory and public administration.
