- This album is not quite as strong as Sixteen Tambourines. This is actually the 4th album (Salvation Army, Baroque Hoedown and Sixteen Tambourines). It's solid musically, but the songs aren't as memorable. Except - his dish of Susanna Hoffs - the Girl With the Guitar, which I love, despite also really liking Susanna.
- The Three O'Clock's sophomore album continues the tradition of intense flower power riffage and melodic excellence established on 16 Tambourines, but cranks it up a notch, with punchier arrangements and choruses begging to be sung out loud to startled onlookers from the open windows of your 1984 280Z. It's a wonder nobody seems to ever talk about this album, or any other Three O'Clock albums for that matter. In my book, you can't ask for a higher-octane opener than "Her Head's Revolving," or a more intoxicating closer than the slinky "Spun Gold," and everything sandwiched in between is pure pop bliss. OK, the hyperbole is certainly thick in these lines, but check it out for yourself if you don't believe me. I mean, seriously, you could frame a fairly convincing argument that Arrive Without Travelling is the eighties' answer to Odessey and Oracle.
