How to Construct Ships in Homeworld 3
Like with any RTS, building units is one of the most basic, important actions in Homeworld 3. If you want to dominate the galaxy, you’re going to need a fleet. Ship construction in Homeworld 3 works similarly to most other popular RTS games, with a few key differences. This guide will teach you how to build your ships, as well as how to unlock more throughout a campaign or match.
How to construct ships
To open your Mothership’s build menu, press B. This will bring up a drop-down menu on the top right of your screen containing all available build options. From here, simply click on an available ship type to construct it! You can also shift + left click to queue 5 ships for construction. Each ship has a Resource cost, as well as a maximum total number of ships of that type. You can see this limit by hovering over that ship type in the build menu. You also have a limit on total ships of each category (Strikecraft, Frigates, etc.) in your fleet. You can see these caps by hovering over the category names in the build menu.
Unlike most RTS games, Homeworld 3 does not have a large number of different production buildings required to make different unit types. All ships are produced at your Mothership. Some Carriers can also produce smaller ships. You can build ships at a Carrier by clicking on it, or by selecting the Carrier at the top of your build menu.
How to unlock more ships in the campaign
Unlocking ships in the Homeworld 3 campaign is pretty simple. New ship types become available to research as you progress through campaign missions. You can then research your new ship by clicking on it in the build menu. Once the research is complete, you can begin constructing your new ships!
How to unlock ships in multiplayer
In multiplayer Skirmish matches, you will start with a few basic ships available to construct and others ready to research, based on the fleet you’ve chosen. More advanced ships will have research prerequisites, requiring you to research another specific ship first. You can view the prerequisites to research each ship by hovering over it in your build menu.
How to unlock ships in War Games
In the War Games roguelike mode, you will use a smaller fleet with a more limited number of ships, launched from a Carrier rather than a Mothership. The available ships depend on your chosen starting fleet. You can unlock more fleets by completing War Games missions to earn and experience and level up. Higher difficulty settings reward more experience.
