FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced its 2024 women's lacrosse honors, and Roanoke College's
Erica Brown and
Maddie McDonald were selected as major award winners.
Brown was tabbed ODAC Coach of the Year, while McDonald garnered Rookie of the Year laurels.
Eight members of the Maroons' roster were also featured on the all-conference teams.
Addison Schmidt,
Libby Bowman,
Sophia Chickering and
Grace Koutouzis were all named to the All-ODAC First Team, while
Kyleigh Chickering,
Kate Loughran,
Natalie Mason and
Sydney Harrison earned second team honors.
McDonald had a banner freshman season for Roanoke, starting 18 of 19 games while recording 28 goals, two assists and 56 draw controls. She totaled 14 markers across the Maroons' final six contests, including two goals apiece in ODAC Tournament games against Shenandoah and Washington and Lee. McDonald has also converted on 8-of-14 free-position shots this year.
In her second season at the helm, Brown has guided the Maroons to a 15-4 record, an ODAC title game appearance and the program's third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. Roanoke has been nationally ranked throughout the season, heading into the NCAA tournament at No. 12 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll and at No. 13 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine rankings.
Schmidt receives her third straight First Team All-ODAC citation. The graduate student has started all 19 games on defense, logging 34 ground balls, 27 caused turnovers and a career-best five goals.
Bowman returns to the all-conference first team after totaling 48 goals and 16 assists to date during her senior campaign. She was also named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team over the weekend.
Sophia Chickering also repeats her first team honor. The senior has started all 19 games and leads the league with 163 draw controls, and she has also posted three goals and one assist. Her career draw control total now stands at 422.
Koutouzis, a second team selection last year, has poured in 91 points on 45 goals and 46 assists, ranking among the conference leaders in all three categories. The junior surpassed 100 career goals in the Maroons' regular-season finale at Ferrum.
Kyleigh Chickering secures her second career all-conference award. The senior goalie has posted an 8.32 goals-against average, a .517 save percentage and 122 total saves. She was also tabbed to the ODAC All-Tournament Team after making 12 saves in a 14-3 semifinal win over Shenandoah and matching her career-high with 15 stops in the final against W&L.
Loughran has put together a breakout senior season to receive all-conference laurels, tallying career-best numbers of 37 goals and 24 assists for 61 total points.
Mason earns her fourth consecutive All-ODAC nod. The senior started in all 14 of her appearances on defense, registering 25 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers, upping her career totals to 138 ground balls and 101 takeaways.
Harrison nabs a spot on the second team for the third straight year. The junior midfielder has started all 19 games while recording 17 goals, nine assists, 25 draw controls and 13 ground balls. She also secured a spot on the ODAC All-Tournament Team.
Washington and Lee received the other three major honors: Hanna Bishop was selected as Offensive Player of the Year, Eugenie Rovegno was named Defensive Player of the Year and Ginny Taylor won the ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
The Maroons, who fell 11-10 to W&L in the conference championship game, will continue their season by traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament this weekend. Roanoke will face Hope (Mich.) in the first round at 4 p.m. Friday, with the winner advancing to take on host Capital in the second round at 4 p.m. Saturday.
