    The new Bridge

The new bridge connects the Eastern Bypass to the nearby Sustrans cycle path, providing what Lincolnshire County Council says is a "safe and accessible" route for cyclists and pedestrians.

Councillor Richard Davies, who oversees highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "Now that it's in place, the team will complete the approach embankments and carry out surfacing works.

"Elsewhere on site, we have two other pedestrian bridges being built as part of the project, at Greetwell and Bloxholm, as well as a new underpass at Lincoln Road."

  3. Mobility scooter pods installed on Lincoln estate

Mobility scooter pods have been installed in part of Lincoln after a rise in the number of residents using them.

The 18 pods, at Broomhill Court, Birchwood, are lockable and have lighting and a charging point.

They have been introduced by City of Lincoln Council because of the need for storage and charging facilities.

Previously, residents had to charge their scooters in communal hallways or leave them outside, which led to safety and security concerns.

Quote Message: This is a fantastic addition to the community and highlights our commitment to meeting the needs of our residents. The new pods have been a welcome addition to the community.” from Councillor Donald Nannestad City of Lincoln Council

    A person with a Taser

The force has been successful with its funding bid for £99,000 to pay for an extra 120 devices, which it will hand out to specially trained members of staff.

Currently, Humberside Police has 150 Tasers, with an 80% increase expected thanks to the funding grant.

The force says it has made the move following continued high levels of violence towards officers.

It hopes the Tasers will bring dangerous and unpredictable situations to a safe conclusion in a quicker manner.

  6. New £3.5m recycling fleet to hit the streets

Bin collection rounds in East Lindsey are set to change as the new £3.5m refuse and recycling fleet hits the road.

    Wheelie bins

The routes used to collect the black and grey bins were introduced in 2013 but have been reviewed after the number of properties needing collections increased.

The changes will be introduced from 6 April, with some people receiving more regular collections.

East Lindsey District Council's new refuse and recycling fleet will also hit the streets.

The 20 new vehicles will replace the council’s existing fleet which has covered three million miles since 2013, the council says.

An eighth person has been arrested after a 24-year-old man was found with a suspected gunshot wound in Lincolnshire.

    Police

It's thought the injured man was discovered by a motorist at about 21:20 on Friday.

At first, police thought the incident had happened in Boston, but they now think it happened in the Spalding area.

The man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The teenager was seriously injured, though his condition is not thought to be life-threatening, according to police.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody, according to the Lincolnshire force.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to get in touch.

  9. Collision hotspot under spotlight after four deaths

Ways to cut the number of collisions on a stretch of a road in Lincolnshire which has seen several fatalities in the decade since it opened are due to be examined by councillors later.

    A16 Crowland Bypass

Four people have been killed on the A16 Crowland Bypass since the road opened in 2010.

A Lincolnshire coroner has described one particular junction on the road, known as The Radar Junction, as "horrendous" and has called for a roundabout to be installed instead.

However, a roundabout would cost more than £2m, according to Lincolnshire County Council, and instead councillors are looking at banning right hand turns at the junction with the B1040.

About 60 residents, farmers and businesses have objected to the proposed changes.

The council's planning committee is expected to meet later to discuss the issue.

  10. Lincolnshire police force's £140k Taser boost

An extra £140,000 is to be given to the Lincolnshire police force so it can buy 170 new Tasers for its officers.

    Police with tasers

The grant is the sixth highest amount for a police force in England outside of London and comes from a £10m pot provided by Home Secretary Priti Patel.

The cash will cover the cost of buying the new Tasers, but the money for batteries, holsters and training has been included by Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones in the budgets for the remainder of this year and next.

Forces in England and Wales will receive a total of £6.5m to purchase a total of 7,923 devices.

The remainder of the £10m has been allocated to additional training for Taser instructors and £3.3m to tackle serious violence and county lines drug gangs.

Quote Message: The additional Tasers will play a significant role in keeping both our communities and our officers safe and will be a huge benefit in policing our rural county. The funding, coming soon after the funding to bolster officer numbers, is yet another demonstration of the Home Secretary’s commitment to tackling crime and is very welcome." from Marc Jones Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner

  12. Northern rail in government control after train chaos

The government says it wants to give train users "more powers over their railways" as it starts running services previously operated by Arriva Rail North.

    Northern train

The franchise changed hands on Sunday after the move was announced in January following widespread commuter chaos.

Passengers have experienced regular delays and cancellations since a timetable change in May 2018. They also faced strikes and an ageing fleet of trains.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham will be among a panel of northern political leaders who will advise the government's operation.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said there would be "no quick fix".

German firm Arriva, which had been due to run Northern services until 2025, previously said problems had been largely due to "external factors" such as infrastructure.

A Department for Transport spokeswoman said tackling overcrowding would be a priority, with "new technology being trialled to identify crowding pinch points".

  13. Two new arrests over suspected shooting

A further two people have been arrested after a 24-year-old man was found with a suspected gunshot wound in Lincolnshire.

    Police tape
