Happy first anniversary to Rita Ora and Taika Waititi! In collaboration with Vogue Weddings, the singer-songwriter shared photos on her Instagram from the couple's stunning wedding celebration, which took place on August 4, 2022. Over the past year, there has been much speculation about the actual wedding, but today, the couple has finally given fans a glimpse into the truth. “It’s actually been quite entertaining for us to see the different stories people made up and all the while getting to keep it to ourselves,” Rita shared with the publication. “And, I love that we now get to share what really happened—and to do it on our one year anniversary no less!”

Ora posted a series of six photos, the first showing the celeb duo striking a pose (full of personality!) in front of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. Another image shows their one-tier cake with red writing that says "We're married bitches!" and a third shows Ora dancing and singing next to an Elvis impersonator.

The couple first met at a barbecue hosted in Los Angeles by Waititi in 2018, but they didn't begin dating until 2021 while they were both filming in Australia. In the summer of 2022, Ora proposed to Waititi in Palm Springs. "Rita proposed to me, and I said ‘yes’ instantly,” Waititi told Vogue Weddings. Just a few weeks after Ora popped the big question, they hosted their wedding in Los Angeles on August 4, 2022. “It wasn’t in London or in France like everyone reported,” Waititi explained. “It was in L.A. with a small group of friends.”

Ora and Waititi also shared that the event itself was quite impromptu; they whipped up the plans in just two short weeks following Ora's proposal. "There were about eight people there—just close friends and family, and parents on Zoom,” Waititi told Vogue Weddings.

During the ceremony, Ora donned a striking Tom Ford dress with jewels from Lorraine Schwartz. "Tom Ford is one of my favorite designers of all time and favorite humans in general,” Rita told the publication. “He’s now one of my close friends, and I adore and admire him so much. To get married in his dress was a dream come true. And because it wasn’t planned, I didn’t know if the right dress was even going to be in town, and I just took the risk and went to the Tom Ford shop, and they had it perfectly waiting with the veil, in my size, no alterations needed to be done," she explained. "I mean, it was like it was meant to be, to be honest. And it just made me so happy.”

For hair and makeup, Ora went with loose curls and a natural look, complemented by the pearls that her mother wore down the aisle on her own wedding day. The groom wore a suit by Brunello Cucinelli.

Both Ora and Waititi emphasized that simplicity was the name of the game for their ceremony. "We didn’t have table settings or any of the stressful things that go along with weddings, and it was nice to just have it super simple," Waititi explained to the publication. He noted that having his daughters there was lots of fun. Ora's sister walked the bride down the aisle. "I felt really peaceful actually,” Ora said. “It was almost like another day. We just all dressed up and got married.”

Following the ceremony, the couple and their loved ones celebrated at the home of their close friend, Guy Oseary, where they hosted an intimate dinner party. A friend even surprised the happy couple with an Elvis Impersonator, after which guests danced the night away to a playlist that Ora and Waititi created themselves.

One year later, Ora and Waititi couldn't be happier: "It’s still working!” Waititi shared with the publication. “I can’t believe it’s been a year.” Ora chimed in, too: "It feels like nothing’s changed since the day I met him at the barbecue. It just feels so good to be with my best friend.”
