LEAVEY CENTER
Since 1988, the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center has been a focal point of student life at Georgetown. Student organizations and support programs have flourished in
its meeting and recreational spaces, growing and evolving—and presenting new needs.
Now, thanks to a generous lead gift from the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey
Foundation, the university has reimagined this centerpiece of the student experience. It’s a transformation that will add much-needed space—for convening, learning, greeting—and greatly enhance our campus.
With additional philanthropic support from alumni and friends, we will ensure that the Leavey Center best serves Georgetown students, today and in the years ahead.

Investing in the Leavey Center’s next chapter
This is more than a renovation. Fully realized, the Leavey Center expansion will revolutionize the north entry to Georgetown’s campus and double the amount of student life space.
The north entry’s reception hall and exhibit gallery will create a firstof-its-kind welcome center at Georgetown—greeting campus visitors and leading them to the Leavey Center’s new grand staircase.

The Esplanade Events Center
A dynamic convening space with sweeping views The Leavey Center expansion will include a new
5,000-square-foot rooftop event center designed to serve the needs of Georgetown’s student organizations and
university constituents across all seasons. This flagship
event space will have stunning views across campus to the banks of the Potomac and direct access to the esplanade lawn, enabling indoor-outdoor receptions.
Divisible into three smaller salons, the events center will
have capacity for over 300 guests—a flexible, memorable venue for dinners, banquets, lectures, and more.

Magis Commons
A hub of student life and learning Georgetown students need more space to engage with university programs, each other, and faculty and staff.
Designed for the team dynamics of a modern university, the Leavey Center’s new Magis Commons will feature a ring of
“experiential learning zones”—advising and meeting spaces where programs otherwise scattered across campus can connect directly with students in a central location.
At the center of that ring will sit a large, open gathering
spot—the Forum. Flooded with natural light, this striking
space will seat up to 100 in flexible furniture configurations, facilitating everything from one-on-one chats to more
sizable receptions. A second floor, meanwhile, will house group study rooms and Cawley Career Education Center presentations.

LEAVEY CENTER
The reconfigured staircase adjacent to the new Magis Commons will greatly enhance access to the esplanade and provide direct access to and from the Leavey Center’s main floor.

New North Entry
A fitting front porch
The construction of the new medical/surgical pavilion at
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and its adjoining North Green are dramatically enhancing the north end of
campus. Cleared and converted into a vibrant landscape,
this area now offers a direct view of the Leavey Center—and an opportunity to create a prominent entry to the university from the north.
The Leavey Center’s new north facade will greet visitors with a two-story, glass-front entrance, topped by a landscaped second-floor terrace. The addition will include a groundlevel information greeting center and exhibit gallery— Georgetown’s first dedicated welcome center—and a grand staircase ascending to the main floor.

PROPOSED LEAVEY NORTH ENTRANCE The Leavey Center was once concealed behind a nowdemolished building. A new north facade will position it as a true gateway to campus for visitors and students.

North Green Lounge
A destination for collaboration and connection The north entrance addition also will expand and open up the Leavey Center’s main floor, creating more space for
students to study and socialize. This active zone will be an ideal place for student organizations to set up their tables and engage the Georgetown community.
The Center’s northeast corner—currently occupied by limited seating and a stairwell—will become a new, expansive
student lounge. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking
the campus’s new North Green, the lounge will offer students
exceptional views.

The new north entry will also expand the Leavey Center’s footprint for flexible, everyday socialization and study space.
