Constantin Constantinescu-Claps

Constantin Constantinescu-Claps (20 February 1884-1961) was an Army General of Romania who commanded the Romanian 4th Army during World War II.

Biography[]

Constantin Constantinescu-Claps was born on 20 February 1884 in Beceni, Baclau County, Romania. He entered the army in 1913 during the Balkan Wars, and he also fought in World War I. On 9 November 1941, Constantinescu-Claps became the commander of the Romanian 4th Army, but he was relieved in February 1943 and replaced by Constantin Sanatescu after his army was mauled at the Battle of Stalingrad. He retired in 1943, and he was arrested by the communist government in 1951 and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. He was exonerated and released in 1955, and he died in 1961.
