Their Eggs Benedict varieties are all delicious, portions are generous and they DO know how to dress a salad. We had a table tucked into an alcove and still it was difficult to have a conversation. Waitstaff is friendly and accommodating, checking often enough, but...not too often. Except for the key lime pie, desserts are not their strongest suit, but everything else is.More

Probably the best service and meal we had over our long weekend getaway. We arrived around 6:15 (close to sunset) on a Sunday and put our name on the waiting list for outdoor seating. We ordered 2 beers from the hostess and sat along the...river while we waited for our table. Only 20 minutes later we sat at our table on the patio overlooking the river and bridge. The wait staff and hostess were extremely attentive without being overbearing. We shared the zucchini sticks (breaded and fried lightly), and then each ordered the tacos. Small, street style tacos—5 total—and you can mix up the ingredients (pork, cod, or mushroom/quinoa). My husband had 2 pork & 3 cod tacos on flour tortillas. I had 3 cod and 2 mushroom/quinoa tacos on butter lettuce. For dessert we enjoyed the chocolate pots de creme and lovely espresso. Excellent dinner and great view! I’m just shocked they don’t have propane heaters outside to extend their outdoor dining season.More

We have been loyal patrons of your restaurant since you were located on Main Street in Irvington. We especially enjoy your new space and it’s spacious outdoor seating. Unfortunately, our recent experience was most disappointing and there seems to have been a decline in both...service and value. Considering the amount of staff working, our server was inattentive and it took an inordinate amount of time to get menus and even longer to be served drinks. Sometimes food is worth the wait, but that cannot be said in this case. Shishito peppers were dry and non-descript. They could have easily come from BJs freezer case. Crab cakes were miniatures and were of average quality. Our big disappointment was the lobster rolls. The plates arrived with rolls smaller than an average hotdog roll and fries that had been around for a while. Scallops, tuna, each entrée meal seemed to represent the minimum that could be served for the maximum price. It’s understandable restaurant with premium views will charge premium prices, but I don’t think you want your customers to walk away with the impression that they’ve been ripped off. Isn’t it better to provide good value to happy diners and keep them coming back?More

My husband and I have previously enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere of The Red Hat over the last few years. However, the last two times we have gone to celebrate our wedding anniversaries, it has been very disappointing! Most recent on July 8, 2022,...we were seated outside and waited a rather long time for our waitress Olivia to take our drink order. When she finally came to our table, we actually were ready to order, cocktails, a crab cake appetizer we requested to share and our Main courses. We then waited some more when our appetizer came to our table even before our drinks! No side plates to share so we had to wait to ask staff for side plates to which they did bring us. Crab cakes were light and flavorful. A bit more time passed before Olivia our waitress stopped by our table to see how our appetizer was when we the asked her for our drinks. She told us, “Sorry, the bar is backed up.” Yet other tables that were seated after us were served their cocktails almost immediately. More time had passed when we finally got our cocktails and to be honest, I don’t think they had an ounce of alcohol in them. Certainly not worth $17.00 each!! Then entrees came. Lobster roll and fries were good. Scallops were very salty and again not worth $40.00. Was disappointed with menu selection compared to previous visits. Tonight, while eating our dinner the table next to us had a dog and it was barking. Since when are dogs allowed to dine?? Would’ve liked to have gotten dessert and a glass of wine. However, after this dining experience, we didn’t order dessert and just wanted our check! Once again, we waited to grab Olivia. When we finally made contact with her we waited yet again for the check to come and waited for her to process our payment. I have to say that the rest of the waiters and wait staff were phenomenal. On point and present to patrons needs. Unfortunately, we will not be returning anytime soon. The overall experience was disappointing!!More

We have been going to Red Hat since it opened and always enjoyed the experience. I know it’s hard getting staff so you make allowances if service is slow. Prices are up all over we get that. However when 3 of us including 2 women...ordered gelato/sorbet for desert at $12.00 we were shocked at the portion size. It came in the tiniest bowl and actually looked like 2 teaspoons full of desert. It didn’t even equal one good scoop of ice cream. I don’t mind spending money for food but I don’t like feeling like I just got ripped off.! Do yourself a favor and don’t order the gelato/sorbet desert. It left a bad taste in our mouth and we won’t be going back to Red Hat anytime soon. They won’t care because business is terrific but if they keep doing things like this and people stop going eventually they will.More

My wife and I joined our daughter and son in law for dinner at RedHat on the River on a Wednesday evening. We arrived at 5:30 (all later times were booked solid) and were seated inside the restaurant at a lovely table with a river...view. Drinks were ordered and we munched on delicious home fried potato chips. We then shared four appetizers, including zucchini sticks, frites, crab cakes and a tossed salad. For our entrees my daughter had the cod fish tacos, my wife had the quinoa burger with tossed salad, my son in law had the soft shell crab special, and I had the paella. Everyone enjoyed their choices. The dining room was comfortable except when the sun was setting over the Hudson. Then it was a little too bright. Portions were not large, but were acceptable. Service was above average. Overall, we had a very pleasant dinner.More

We visited twice in a 2 week period for dinner... First time had the endive salad with walnuts and apples; nice, light vinaigrette sauce, but lacking flavor. Soft shell crabs were good, but the accompaniments very lacking again in flavor. The salmon was a little...overcooked, bit dry, and totally lacking flavor. It desperately needed more sauce, like a lemony vinaigrette. The asparagus were not fresh and undercooked; also no flavor. The best part of this meal was dessert; a very good pot a chocolate. Next visit: 4 of us, a week later. The same soft shell crab dish came with inedible hard potatoes. The had way too little seafood, and of that (2 shrimp) the mussels and clams were overdone and tough. Crab cakes awful....two thin ones stacked together, obviously made of canned crab. Bread at the table....not worth the calories. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. We may go only for brunch or cocktails again, but definitely not for dinner.More

As the title indicates, the undeniable lead on this review has to be location. The restaurant sits about 20 yards from the Hudson River. In the warmer weather they have not only outdoor seating, but an outdoor rooftop bar/lounge area for while you await your...table. But even when weather doesn't cooperate, brick walls. a loft level, and soft lighting give the indoor space a great, warm feeling. That's a perfect ambiance for a french bistro. If the food isn't quite as star-worthy as the space, that's mostly because the space is 5-star. Add it up and this is always one of the most popular spots int he area....which speaks volumes.More

Went for an anniversary. Burrata did not flow when cut open and came with one piece of bread even though we were sharing our appetizer. Short rib was presented as a circle of meat and was a little dry. Steak was cooked well but completely...flavorless, even with the chimichurri sauce. Ordered the spicy margarita, which had more of a watermelon flavor than spicy. And also another tequila drink with a smoked salt on the rim, which I thought I might like but ended up tasting like I was eating char off the barbecue. Waitress was super nice. They brought out two little biscuits with a candle, which was a nice, unexpected surprise. We ultimately decided to go down the road for dessert and a nightcap and didn’t end up trying their dessert. Separately, the acoustics were off. It was oddly loud for just people talking and as much as we were looking forward to watching the sunset, we were placed upstairs and had to watch what we could through a reflection in the mirror.More

I read and heard such good things about this restaurant only to be disappointed. A very nice restaurant and great location on the water. I ordered the lamb osso bucco, it didn’t really have much flavor. Seemed like it was boiled then deep fried for...a bit then for flavor they added the sauce. Appetizers were so so, we had the duck and pork confit and the salmon tartar. The kids menu cheese ravioli was $15 and there was only 3 raviolis on the plate. Really? The mussels were good. Did not impress me at all. Don’t think we’ll be going back.More

I used to work at this establishment. For such a nice place and with such nice food you would think the kitchen staff would be wearing gloves to handle your food with. Think again because they dont.. GROSS! This is very unsanitary and could shut...them down. For a restaurant that serves celebrities and served the Clintons, I would have thought higher of them.More

Not sure how this could rate #1 in Irvington. The service was deplorable, 20 minutes to place an order over an hour to get appetizers, which was the best part of the meal by far, frites, zucchini sticks, salmon tartare and beet poke. The waitress...said she would make sure the entrees would be timed to come after we finished the starters, but they came shortly after. The chicken was dry and the sides lacked taste. The vegetarian dish the fried egg salad, had a tasty egg but the rest of the dish although packed with nice options again lacked flavor. The cod was good. The chef doesn't get flavor palate combinations, a shame. The desserts were also perplexing. Key lime pie a winner but the flourless chocolate cake was dry, think finely chopped sawdust, and again lacked flavor. The waitress kindly acknowledged and apologized comping one dessert and asking us to give them another chance. Lifes far too short to eat substandard good. Go elsewhere and enjoy yourself.More

We had been to Red Hat several time before new management took over and loved it. It was somewhat expensive, but had a less expensive bistro menu as well. This menu no longer exists. While the atmosphere inside and views outside remain as beautiful as...ever, the prices have skyrocketed, service was slow - 2 hours for two people is a long time to be sitting - and we both left hungry. Four scallops on a bed of black lentils the thickness of sauce cost $46. It was served on a salad plate, no less! An entree salad b, still expensive for what it was, was ordered because one of us could not justify other appealing items at the price shown. Three drinks, a shared appetizer, two entrees, and a shared dessert was $250 with tax and tip. We recently ate at a really nice Manhattan French restaurant, with two drinks, and it was just as delicious for $100 less. We will not return to Red Hat.More

First time eating here for dinner. Went with my family of four. Everyone found a menu item that they were excited about upfront and really enjoyed once it came. Great service, ambiance and the views of the river were amazing!

Took a short ride to the small quiet town of Irvington. Shopped at local stores - particularly the hardware store in town for items for the home. Took a stroll along the scenic Hudson River Park with views of the Bridge to the right and...the Manhattan skyline to the left. All ages from kids playing sports to family with dogs and elderly holding hands walked the park. Sat on a park bench and watched the boats and jet skis go by. And then ended the relaxing peaceful day with a most delightful French meal outside seating right along the majestic Hudson River. Delicious food - the most pleasant and accommodating staff - told the owner we were definitely coming back again! Just a pleasant day to relax and see the scenery and enjoy a great cuisine.More

If you get nice weather, outdoors is best. If not, inside is nice also. Haven't had meal upstairs but I heard bar is good up there. Not sure about family meal.
