That pitchfork scene...

This film is criminally under appreciated.

this movie gave me the heebie-jeebies

I really liked this movie. The "Crazies" were more quirky and malevolent and interesting than the typical mindless zombie, and the leads were sympathetic and MOSTLY made smart choices (though a few of the bad choices led to some great setpieces). The quiet Midwestern small-town feeling was set up really well IMO. Haven't seen the original so I can't really compare.

I liked the movie a lot and still watch it from time to time, but what I really didn't like was a number of last-second saves that happen. You just know everything is going to be ok even in the direst of situations. about to get killed by a crazy lady... don't worry your buddy is going to take a blind shot from downstairs and outside without really knowing whats going on and save you. Scary dude with pitch-fork about to stab you? no worries... hubby is just a few doors down. got kind of annoying honestly.

This is the only negative I have for this movie.

Few horror scenes still get me on edge like when the crazy guy with the pitchfork starts stabbing people at the hospital one by one.

I remember sticking this on as just a sunday hangover movie to kill some time and quickly forget. Turns out it was a great little horror movie. Would definitely recommend.

I wish the wife was more competent because she was just there to create tension and scream so that they were found. Then she shoots that one hunter and she’s suddenly turned into a cool collected badass with normal peripheral vision. I mean I like the movie but I wish she was more than just a speed bump when the writers need to draw out a scene for time. Also my favorite line is where the sheriff is sick of the deputy going crazy, the deputy is shooting off in the car wash and says “I saw movement!” And the sheriff stops what he’s doing, leans over, and says (as the ever constant voice of reason) “Everything is fucking moving”

BIG SPOILERS TO FOLLOW

Okay, I saw this in theaters and I have had a giant issue with it for years that I've had no one to discuss it with!

Alright, the house scene. The crazy woman stabs the Sheriff through the hand, he uses the knife in his hand to stab her in the throat, then pulls the knife out of her throat, out of his hand, while keeping his hand against her neck and open bleeding wound. The deputy shoots her and, all twitchy, announces "double tap. Just to be sure."

I thought they were setting up an amazing twist where the deputy was, if paranoid/overenthusiastic, not actually sick with the crazy virus and that the Sheriff would be. The crazy virus went from waterborne to airborne in a matter of, if I remember, hours. Not a stretch to imagine it mutated to be bloodborne as well over the next day or two, right?

Wrong. The sheriff suffers zero negative consequences for dragging a sick woman's blood through an open wound on himself, and the deputy had just very obviously been getting sick the whole time. Am I an idiot? Did I miss something that makes this not foolish?

I felt that way too but I suspended my disbelief as I enjoyed the movie overall

Pretty sure they are the reason they have the mid-credit scene where the outbreak starts again..

Thank you! My thoughts exactly! It’s more likely to be bloodborne when it started in water rather than air… imo

I remember seeing it in theaters, but that's about it

Great movie. Forgot about it honestly when I saw this in theaters. This thread made me watch it again today. It was nice experiencing it again after forgetting about it.

One of the more underrated horror movies of all time.

One of the few horror remakes that it really entertaining. I still think it was a weak ending, but I always enjoyed the story of the film.

Plus, Timothy Olyphant is awesome and I'm genuinely confused as to why he isn't a major movie star.

Right?! Brilliant actor. Still have to watch Justified. Really liked the cast too. Joe Anderson was great.

First movie I went to see with my wife. She's a jumper. In one scene she slapped my leg and jumped out of her seat. She loves horror movies too. I fucking love this movie.

Absolutely love the film from start to finish. It is better than it has any right to be.

It also has not one but several good "reveals", all of which push you towards seeing how insane and dangerous the situation really is for the people trapped in it.

I love this movie, one of the best remakes ever and an example of how they should be approached. I hate that it doesn't get more credit though.

The opening scene grabbed my attention. It was creepy to see them turn slowly - like the scene in the doctor's office where Ben (?) kept repeating himself.

The morgue scene was campy but fun too.

I forgot all about this movie. I bought it off pay per view when it came out and it scared the shit out of me. That car wash scene was terrifying

I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it a few years ago, and it has decent replay value. What's cool about this one is the government's response and attempts to contain the spread. That in itself is pretty damn scary.

Haven't seen the original, but this is one of my favorites. As a remake, it's even more shocking how great it is compared to modern horror (and it's 7 years old now!) What's staggering to me is how subtly malevolent it is, with the buildup of exposition and how they lose their sanity (the house fire scene and aftermath!) Great film, highly recommended!

Great film with good action and pacing. Kept the suspense going.

One of the rare cases where the remake is actually better than the original.
