Madeleine Sherwood, of Flying Nun fame, dead at 93

Canadian actress Madeleine Sherwood has died at her home in the Laurentians at the age of 93.

Canadian actress Madeleine Sherwood has died at her home in the Laurentians at the age of 93.

As a star who moved south of the border, Sherwood was best known for her role as Reverend Mother Superior Placido in the 1960s TV series The Flying Nun. The multi-talented actress starred in plays, films and Broadway over the span of her career.

Beyond acting, Sherwood was also involved in the U.S. civil rights movement and the feminist movement in the 1970s. She was blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

She passed away in St-Hippolyte.
