‘A Shotgun to Cricket’s Head’: Jake Tapper Makes Grim Comparison After House Kills MTG’s Effort to Oust Speaker

CNN host Jake Tapper compared the death of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) motion to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday to the death of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s dog at the hands of her owner.

After the House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to table Greene’s motion to oust Johnson from the speakership, Tapper remarked, “So that is the death of Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate.”

He then remarked, “The motion to table is essentially Kristi Noem taking a shotgun to Cricket’s head. It’s the death of that effort.”

Tapper’s comment was a clear reference to the controversy over Noem’s new book No Going Back, in which the governor admits to having killed her 14-month-old dog Cricket after it proved “less than worthless” as a hunting animal and attacked livestock.

Noem’s confession sparked outrage among Democrats and Republicans alike, including, allegedly, former President Donald Trump.

Greene’s motion was rejected by the House, 359-43, after the congresswoman pushed for a vote to decide Johnson’s fate on Wednesday.

Greene – a loyalist of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted from his position in October – was booed by her colleagues as she called for Johnson’s ouster in a speech. The congresswoman responded by calling her colleagues members of a “uniparty.”

“Speaker Johnson has not lived up to a single one of his self-approved tenets,” claimed Greene during the speech, before criticizing Johnson for backing additional foreign aid to Ukraine.
