Why Is It So Verbose?
I had a use case to use R1 to retrieve cocktail recipes. I asked it for something simple like a Manhattan but I got the history of the cocktail and then finally the ratios, recipes. I am used to brief answers then the ability to ask for more detail if I need it. Why is it so verbose, it kind of kills the usefulness
also, the user needs to be more verbose and explicit about what you want. Tell the ai to keep the answer concise and get straight to the recipe.
I could imagine the repetitiveness of constantly clarifying how you want it to answer would be annoying. Needs custom pre-prompting.
Yes it’s so annoying having to do that constantly when using ChatGPT
Yea, but now you can tell ChatGPT to store memories that span all of your chats so that's not an issue anymore.
In theory yes but in reality there is degradation happening so often in my experience that I find it doesn’t remember to keep things concise 50% of the time and always ends up apologising to me when I scold it
You can set custom instructions for ChatGPT that will apply to all conversations. Look in your settings at the bottom left, for Customize ChatGPT. You can set up both information you want it to know, and how you want it to respond.
LLMs are like that, but what drives me nuts is when I tell R1 to just give direct answers from now on, it’ll say it will…except it won’t.
Because LLM’s are like that, it’s hallucinating, it can’t remember that “setting” as it isn’t a setting
You asked chatGPT to make all future responses concise, then opened up a new chat instance
I just tested it out: Tell me how to make a cocktail called Manhattan:
With all of these AIs the answers seem to vary a lot based on how you ask the question. Gotta experiment a bit. My guess is in your case with the word “recipe” it took the AI to one of those recipe websites which all do exactly what you just described to try to keep people on the webpage longer so it will rank higher.
Yeah makes sense
Zampe, it continues to delight me as you PEBKAC the heck out of "problems" these days.
I'm not blaming other people, but for those of us who have spent the last year and a half researching and using these new technologies EVERY DAY, it's disheartening how much knowledge about how to use and adapt to LLMs hasn't reached everyone. Well, that's true about knowledge in general. I spent a lot of time in my last year of teaching trying to convey to students exactly why there are increasing degrees of school and how, as you progress, you realize that the last level you were on was only a thin slice of how much more there is to learn.
The answer is only partial, there are 3 ways to make a Manhattan, it should tell you when you ask if it s a sweet dry or perfect Manhattan
It’s also because you can’t copyright a recipe, but you can if there’s a story along with it
Sometimes I wish it were more verbose. Hard to get it right with LLMs
Because popular llms are verbose
Why wouldn't you just use Google Assistant?
Very good point!!!
Making the rabbit pointless lol. Such a useless "device".
Just pulled the Sim from the r1 and dusted off an old pixel 4 as a dedicated ai device to try that out
