This is the perfect quaint Vermont Inn. Couldn’t help but think of the old Bob Newhart show! Rooms were nicely appointed , super clean and well equipped. Very comfy beds and bedding. Wheelchair accessible, which can be a challenge in quaint Vermont inns. Very nice daily country breakfast in beautiful restaurant with lovely outdoor porch seating. Great game room and a fantastic toddlers playroom! Lovely pool with soaking tub and a sauna. Beautiful grounds , on the river. Lots of games to play outside, blankets provided, and a fire pit with make your own s’mores kits! Hope to make it back soon.

We spent two night at 506 on the River Inn. This was a great find for us and we enjoyed our stay very much. The Inn is located just outside of Woodstock center and was very nice. It is decorated in a very cool style and we liked the restaurant (506) and the library room. Our Room (113) we on the ground floor on the end of the building. The room was very nice and again lots of thought went into the decor. The room had a king bed, small pull out sofa, easy chair and footstool. There were doors out to a balcony that in warmer months would be great. The room came with a kitchenette area and a full size fridge. The bathroom contained a small tub (for a child) and a stall shower. This room would be perfect for people with small children. The bath was stocked with amenities and the power on heated towel rack was a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were nice. The noise level was good with only minimal sounds coming from adjacent rooms. and room above. We were here for a ski weekend and went to the indoor pool hoping to soak in the hot tub but were disappointed to learn that the jetted area was a hydro pool and not a hot tub. The jets were good but something was missing without heat. Luckily there was a dry sauna that took care of the lack of heat. The hotel has a game room, fitness room, and children’s play area. We had a drink and appetizer in the bar and the atmosphere was nice with the piano playing. The same space is used for buffet breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was very varied and filled us up for a day of skiing. All in all we enjoyed our stay. If they put in an outdoor hot tub in the future it would make it top notch for us.

Dear BajanFan, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and found the hotel comfortable and well appointed. My apologies for the lack of heat in jetted soaking pool. Generally that pool is kept at 99 degrees, but unfortunately there was a mechanical issue which caused the water to be drained and refilled, and the tub had not come back up to temperature yet. We hope you will join us again during your next trip to Vermont. Sincerely, Josh

Our inability to host our normal large gathering for Thanksgiving, prompted us to decide to spend it in Vermont (I had always dreamed of spending it in a New England venue). The 506 On The River Inn was absolutely perfect in every way, and they have nailed the pandemic protocol. Your room is disinfected and sanitized. Everything was spotless. Once you check in, there is no daily housekeeping service to prevent unnecessary exposure. We found that they had planned our stay perfectly with plenty of towels and other amenities. The room has a small fridge and microwave, which was great for heating up our Thanksgiving leftovers. The breakfast that is included with your room rate is a nice mix of fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage and pastries. The ladies who serve breakfast are absolutely lovely, and the room where you can sit and eat if you prefer not to take out, is very effectively socially distanced - tables spread very far apart. The grounds surrounding the hotel are lovely, even in winter! We travel to Woodstock usually every year, and we will definitely stay here again.

The Inn is beautiful and homey. The staff is extremely helpful and well-organized. I highly recommend this place for events.
We chose On the River Inn for a blowout 70th birthday party for my mother on New Year's Eve. They set us up in the private dining room (library) that had ample space for our 20+ guests as well as a couch and comfortable chairs to sit and chat. They had board games, which was great for the kids.
The food and drink service was excellent. They did exactly what we requested, which included a perfect preparation of about a half dozen whole Maine lobsters! Their timing was excellent for dinner and a midnight champagne toast. And they were very effective at clearing and cleaning the space gradually so we could end the party and get some sleep!
The Inn was also able to accommodate our guests from out of town. The rooms were very nice. It felt like staying with friends or family. (Unfortunately, no one had time to enjoy the pool!) They also have a free breakfast and all-day coffee, tea, cocoa in the main dining room.
Again, I highly recommend this place for the high-quality staff, beautiful scenery (on the river, of course!) and outstanding service.

Lovely farmhouse room and welcoming breakfast staff!

The good: Room was really nice! We had a farmhouse apartment, which was perfect with kids. The breakfast staff was super nice and wanted to make sure my kids enjoyed their breakfast and time in the Woodstock area. Hotel was very quiet, and pool times were easy to get.

The cons: with Covid, the hotel seemed to be a little neglected. The lamps in our room needed lightbulbs, and the amount of dead bugs in the hallway/stairs (amount only increased during our 3 nights there!) showed it had been a long time since they have vacuumed. The pool area windows needed a good cleaning and replaced burned out bulbs, etc. The hotel had good “bones”, but needed some TLC.

Clean property, fully compliant with COVID regs highly recommended for a good value spot in Woodstock. Terrific comfy bed, great indoor pool area and lovely grounds. Didn’t get the full Inn experience here due to restrictions but that is understandable. Breakfast was modified greatly but they get high marks for trying. Housekeeping is limited but they were willing to leave amenities, towel changes and empty trash left outside your room door which was a great solution! It’s practically next door to Farmhouse Pottery so it was the perfect spot for their tent sale! Well done owners!

We paid $390 a night for a room and for those prices you would think the staff would at least have minimal training and supervision. OK, I get staffing shortages these days, and we could accept that there was only on-request housekeeping service in the rooms because got enough towels, etc. for our two-night stay. But when got there and told them we were celebrating 25th anniversary weekend, instead of even a "Congratulations!" all we got was a curt "Sorry, we can't do anything for you, we have a wedding party here this weekend." I am also an early riser and I went down to the dining room at 6:30 AM (30 mins before the start of breakfast, hoping to find some coffee (even Hampton Inn has early coffee). There was an urn and some cups on the counter so I started to pour a cup, and a female staffer burst out of the kitchen and literally shouted at me "We're not open yet!" I tried to explain that I was just looking for a cup of coffee and a quiet place where I could write an anniversary card to my wife, but she continued to grouse until a co-worker came out and said it was OK and got me some milk for my cup. The next morning I was careful to come down exactly at 7, but instead of being able to have a quiet cup, the woman from the day before and some other staffers decided to park themselves in the middle of the dining room and have an extremely loud group conversation that went on and on. I could barely hear myself think, much less listen to the nice classical music they had playing, and I eventually fled to a lounge upstairs for some quiet. The rooms and beds are very nice, but we spent the balance of our weekend avoiding the staff to minimize the damage to our stay. My advice would be to stay somewhere else.

This is one of our favorite spots to have a staycation in Vermont. We’ve stayed here both pre-pandemic and during and both experiences have been nothing short of incredible. The hotel is clean, well-decorated, and well-appointed with a number of enjoyable amenities such as an indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna, as well as an outdoor firepit. Our rooms are always spotless and the staff is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure our stay is comfortable. We also love the convenience of 506 to downtown Woodstock, which we like to visit for its nice shops and restaurants. As always, we can’t wait for our next visit! Pro tip: If you’re looking to stay closer to Killington for its ski resort, they have a sister property, Mountain Meadows, that also looks beautiful and we hope to check it out soon.

My family and I stayed in the king bedroom suite for 3 nights. The rooms were huge (one with a king sized bed and pullout couch with a full bathroom, and another bedroom with a double bed and a small bathroom) and incredibly clean. And the view from the balconies was spectacular! The staff was warm, welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast (which was included) was very good. We tried dinner one night from the restaurant and that was also good, it's just unfortunate there's no seating of any kind and it's grab and go or eat in your room. The location was great - maybe like a 3 minute drive into the heart of the town. My only suggestion, to take the hotel up a notch, would be to put shower glass doors in all the bathrooms, or at least put them in the suites. The inn is beautifully furnished and I think shower glass doors would elevate it even more. Overall my family and I had a wonderful time and were very pleased with our stay. We would definitely stay again!

We recently stayed at this hotel and I cannot say enough good things about this place. We stayed in Room 105 which has 2 rooms as we were traveling with our adult son in a wheelchair. The set up gave us all the privacy we wanted , in addition to a great space and super clean , it also two separate decks which overlooked part of the river and open space . The mattresses were so comfortable you didn't want to get out of them in the morning !!!The breakfasts were terrific as well as dinner in the Bistro(awesome servers Sara and funny Cari)! The decor is an antique lovers dream , everywhere you turned there was something else to check out ! The bar /dining room area welcomes you in with the leather couches and chairs and dining tables and amazing chandeliers. The halls are appointed so nicely giving it a boutique feel . On top of the great and friendly staff , this place is also pet friendly ( we did not bring ours this time ) . The location was perfect, quiet and 5 min from the village of Woodstock . This hotel by far was my favorite one that i have ever stayed in . If your are planning a trip to the Woodstock VT area you should definitely stay here.

Honestly cannot recall how bright the decor was, only that the room faced a beautiful back lawn/trees with terrace seating. Can say that the bed was very comfortable, best my husband and I have slept in for a a hotel. Also breakfast was excellent, lovely room with outside seating if you choose looking out to the trees.

We stayed in the main lodge(in nice weather) and honestly I just can't remember the farmhouse suites. But if you google "506 On The River Inn" it'll show you outside photos and it appears that the Suites may be the building just behind the Inn. I wish I could be of more help. You should just call the front desk and ask them. They were lovely people to deal with.
