In July 2009, Hector was hosting a baby shower party in New York to celebrate his wife's pregnancy. But the party abruptly turned into a crime scene as a gatecrasher stepped outside their home and opened fire.

The shocking gunfight killed a teenager on the spot while rendering two men injured. After a while, police officials arrived and found two guns and 46 empty bullet shell casings but no arrests were made.

Fortunately, no harm came to the Brooklyn native and his family.

Following the incident, Jamie released a statement relaying condolences to the victims’ families. He also mentioned that he had nothing to do with the crime that took place outside his home. 

I would like to make it clear that the shooting incident [Sunday] did not take place at my home, nor did it involve me, my wife, nor any of the invited guests.

Going by the statement, the Bosch star was just a wall away from the horrible incident. 

Hector Runs a Non-profit Organization

Wary of violence, Hector runs Moving Mountains Inc. a non-profit organization that intends to inspire inner-city kids through creativity.

While talking to News one, the African-American artist of Haitian-American heritage cited that brutality, like the crime scene from his baby shower, was why he came up with Moving Mountains. He shared he wanted to direct youth from violence to positive expressions of art.  

Through the NGO, the actor aims to decrease street violence and teach vulnerable children the skills to make better choices for themselves.
