John Doyle Globe and Mail It’s a love letter but bittersweet, directed by Shasha Nakhai and Rich Williamson. It sure pulses with life. Jul 5, 2022 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail If you have any doubt about the tremendous, inspiring, near-transcendent power that Canadian film can offer, then you must make a priority of watching Scarborough. Feb 23, 2022 Full Review Aparita Bhandari Globe and Mail Offers an insight into the complexities of the low-income and culturally diverse community that makes up a large part of this east Toronto neighbourhood... Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 16, 2021 Full Review Jackson Weaver CBC News In bringing Scarborough to life, the film features over 40 speaking roles — most from first-time, largely untrained actors — and the result is a yearlong production that is as much a love letter to a place as to its people. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 16, 2023 Full Review Emma Badame That Shelf Scarborough may seem like a sad film and it certainly breaks your heart numerous times but there are so many moments of resilience, kindness and love for each and from their communities that youre left with a feeling of hope and positivity. Mar 7, 2022 Full Review Thom Ernst Original Cin The debut feature from co-directors Nakai and Williamson captures all the grit and beauty of its source material, offering fantastic performances from its young cast. jason r Well I was immediately captivated by the sadness of the characters and the rawness. Then 3/4's of the way through I had my heart literally ripped out of my chest. I can only equate it to a trauma. The range of emotions I felt, I can't recall feeling for a movie. It floored me to the point it took me 5.minutes just to come to grips with what had occurred. A journey of the human spirit and picking ones soul up and brushing it off and pushing on. So sad but very beautiful. A quiet masterpiece.
