Honestly ODU is not as bad as some people make it out to be it’s all about where you go and who you surround yourself with! Everyone here is pretty nice, very accepting, and there’s so many people and so much to do that even if one thing isn’t for you there will be five new things for you to try! I will say even though the population is big you WILL bump into people you know— whether you want to or not. But on the plus side the campus is pretty and walkable, the system is easy to navigate, and most professors are pretty willing to work with you and be flexible if you have issues, concerns, or problems with work or attendance or really anything. It’s a great school with lots of resources for a good price, you just have to know how to access them to the fullest (most professors will provide links, sources, and phone numbers or buildings to go to for certain concerns).
My experience at Old Dominion University for my first semester was good. I had a fun experience from the events in the dining hall like the fish throw down, late night breakfast, and the fried chicken throw down. To activity hour and other events that happen in the Webb which made my time at ODU fun. I like how there is always something to do on campus. There is never a dull moment while you are at ODU. If there was something to change I would change housing like how we apply and have more housing. Even with housing,ODU is great!
It was ok, my first year wasn't great, I got a bad roommate and am currently waiting on them to appeal the charges because of them, the system to get my room changed was terrible because it took forever and the mediation was one-sided. The classes were ok, some professors were better than others. The university also has multiple events every day but doesn't express them well through mail. The events are mostly scheduled in the middle of the day, which makes it hard for students to attend. Finally, the food is great, and can't wait to continue to try again and have better experiences.
