In a video circulated on social media, Police were accused of unreasonably stopping and searching a schoolgirl. In fact the Police were assisting the pupil in locating her lost property. At around 4 PM yesterday (3 November), the schoolgirl reported to Police that she had lost her wallet at Po Lam MTR station and requested police assistance. Police officers attended scene and found the wallet in her backpack. After the schoolgirl confirmed that she had suffered no loss, Police officers asked for her identity card and recorded her personal particulars for record purposes. The above case was captured on video by a malevolent bystander and shared online. The bystander made hateful comments, questioned the Police action at scene, and suggested that the Police officers had unreasonably stopped the pupil for questioning. It is not uncommon to come across videos and fake news online with a slanted commentary. We appeal to the members of the public to think twice before being persuaded by biased diatribes, which incite hatred and mistrust of the Police. Maintaining the peace and upholding social order is difficult without the help from members of the public. We will continue to act professionally at all times in order to gain public trust and support.
