The new Netflix film Stolen has become one of the most popular movies on the giant streaming platform in April 2024. Stolen, originally titled Stöld, is a thriller directed by Swedish filmmaker Elle Márjá Eira (Makta, Power Play). The screenplay was written by Peter Birro (438 Days) based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed Swedish writer and journalist Ann-Helen Laestadius, which won Sweden’s Book of the Year Award in 2021. The film follows a young woman who becomes outraged at the lack of local police efforts to protect the lives of an Indigenous community from a man who is targeting them.

Stolen is one of the best movies on Netflix right now and is currently listed on the Top 10 Movies on the platform in the United States. One of the main conflicts in the film centers around protecting the heritage and customs of the Indigenous Sámi People, who value reindeer as a sacred to their community. Elsa, the protagonist of Stolen, takes note of how many hunters have been killing reindeer for sport and begins to discover the racist and hate-fueled intentions beneath these actions. With no support from the police, Elsa is forced to take matters into her own hands to put an end to the hate crimes being permitted against her community.

Elin Kristina Oskal as Elsa

Elin Kristina Oskal is an up-and-coming actor and singer who is originally from Norway. She plays a young Sámi woman named Elsa in Stolen and is the main protagonist in the film. Oskal receives her first leading role in a major feature film in Stolen after playing Anna in the Sámi version of Frozen 2, or "Frost 2", in 2019. In addition to acting, Oskal is also a well-known singer and theater performer. As of the time of writing, Oskal has no reported upcoming projects, but based on the popularity of Stolen on Netflix, that could certainly change in the near future.

Martin Wallström as Robert Isaksson

Martin Wallström is the most notable actor who stars in Stolen based on his memorable performance as Tyrell Wellick in the acclaimed series Mr. Robot (2015 - 2019). Wallström plays the antagonist Robert Isaksson in Stolen, the man who targets the Sámi’s herd of reindeer.
