Namdev Bhau is a simple man. He lives in the city of Mumbai with his wife, daughter and a mildly-delusional uncle and works as a chauffeur. At the age of 65, all he craves from life anymore is some peace and quiet – something that’s increasingly difficult to find within the cacophony of the bustling city he lives in.
Such is the bedrock of writer-director Daria Gai's second feature film Namdev Bhau: In Search Of Silence which chronicles one man’s relentless pursuit to escape as far away as possible from the maddening din of his urban hometown. Played by a real-life cab driver named Namdev Gurav (whom Dar discovered after being driven around the city by him), he…
The human mind is always in search of peace. For few this peace could be inside the corner of their home, for others might be in creativity and for few might be in tranquility. And again, peace can be the ultimate freedom- the moksha from this transient existence.
But for many, peace lies inside the vibration of life along with the beauty of natural, radiant peace and the heartbeat of existence. Director Dar Gai involves her audience in an amazing journey in the movie “Namdev Bhau: In Search Of Silence”, where two protagonists are in search of tranquility – one knowingly and other unknowingly.

atmosfera incrível com uma transparência de emoções do protagonista sem necessitar de muitas palavras. lindo demais e com certeza assistiria outra vez para sentir de novo a linda história de namdev e aaliq.
This is quite a rare one, and one that is better suited to be watched on the big screen as it is full of beyond breathtaking shots of the Himalayan landscapes. The movie is about Namdev Bhau who works as a driver in Mumbai, a city which is at least 60 times more noisy than any of the big cities in the US. He is fed up with all this noise and now he is on a quest to the "Silent Valley" (To be noted there is a Silent Valley in India but his destination is probably a made up one). This fun adventure is beyond a feast for our senses but there's also something about it that just moves…
This is nothing if not a sweet film, which sets itself up very much in the vein of any other (American) indie comedy with its high concept -- here, an elderly chauffeur in the busy and noisy city of Mumbai who just wants a bit of peace -- and then an almost-slapstick quest to get out. He's a laconic fellow who for much of the film expresses himself through facial acting, while around him his family chatter on, and then the people he meets on his quest for silence... In fact, of course, it's never really quiet for him, and that's part of his journey -- though the beautiful mountainous scenery of northern India is also very much a part…
O valor do companheirismo? Violência de castas? Talvez tudo isso, talvez nada disso, quem sabe?
Um bonito filme.

A man who works as a driver in Mumbai can no longer stand the noise coming from the city and his own family and goes on a quest to find a silent place in the Himalayas.
Original, unpretentious and eventually surprising, it is a charming “road movie”.
Young Ukranian writer and director Dar Gai is a name to watch.
