The Southwest Preparatory Conference spring championships took place last weekend in the Dallas area with some Houston-area private schools coming home with team titles. Here's a look at what happened.

Baseball

Class 4A champion: St. John’s

The St. John’s Mavericks haven’t lifted a trophy in over three decades. St. John’s took down Episcopal 6-4 to win the SPC championship for the first time since 1991. The Mavericks reached the SPC title game by beating Houston Christian 3-1 in the semifinals and St. Mark's School of Texas 5-0 in the opening round.

Class 3A championship: Fort Worth Trinity Valley defeated Irving Cistercian.

Softball

Class 4A champion: Episcopal

Following an 8-5 win over St. John's in the semifinals, Episcopal beat Kinkaid 5-1 to win its seventh consecutive SPC championship.

Class 3A champion: Fort Worth Country Day

After taking a 1-0 lead, John Cooper surrendered 12 unanswered runs to Fort Worth Country Day, which won 12-1 to capture its second straight SPC championship.

Boys tennis

Class 4A championship: Austin St. Stephen's def. Addison Greenhill.

Class 3A championship: Irving Cistercian def. Fort Worth Trinity Valley.

Girls tennis

Class 4A champion: Kinkaid

Kinkaid rolled to a 3-0 win over John Cooper for the SPC championship. The Falcons didn’t drop a single set in the postseason, beating Episcopal 5-0 in the opener before beating St. John’s 4-0 in the semifinals.

Class 3A champion: Fort Worth Trinity Valley

Houston Christian fell short of a repeat after suffering a 3-2 loss against Trinity Valley in the championship match. The Mustangs beat Arlington Oakridge School 3-1 and Episcopal School of Dallas 4-1 to reach the final.

Boys golf

Class 4A champion: Kinkaid

Kinkaid beat out a pair of Houston-area teams for the championship. The Falcons posted a score of 607, edging Episcopal (625) and St. John’s (629).  

Class 3A champion: Fort Worth Trinity Valley

Trinity Valley (622) edged John Cooper (629) for the title. Both teams posted 312 scores in round one with Trinity Valley beating John Cooper 317-310 in round  two.

Girls golf

Class 4A champion: St. John's

St. John's posted a score of 618 to repeat as SPC champions over John Cooper (652) while Kinkaid and Episcopal tied for third (728).

Class 3A Champion: Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart

Duchesne posted a team score of 798 to beat Fort Worth Country Day (853) for the SPC championship. Arlington Oakridge School (868) took third place.

Boys track and field

Class 4A champion: Episcopal

Episcopal dominated the pair of competitions as the Knights earned the championship with 208.5 points over John Cooper (147) and third-place Houston Christian (107). Evan Ringwald and DeVonte Taylor II won three individual events apiece. Ringwald won the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.34 followed by wins in the 1,600 (4:19.18) and 3,200 (9:27.94). Taylor II won the 110 hurdles (14.41), 300 hurdles (38.38) and long jump (23 feet, 1 inch). Karson Gordon won the triple jump (50-8.75) while the Knights took two of the relays (4x100 and 4x400).

Class 3A champion: Irving Cistercian.

Girls track and field

Class 4A Champion: Episcopal

Episcopal kept it going by collecting 205.5 points to win the SPC championship over Hockaday (127) and St. John’s (124). Mary Taylor led the way with three solo wins. Taylor won the 300 hurdles (44.94), long jump (18-2) and triple jump (37-2). Townsen Thomas won the 100 hurdles (14.54) and the Knights took the 4x100 relays. 

Class 3A champion: Fort Worth Country Day.

Boys lacrosse

Class 4A championship: Episcopal School of Dallas def. St. John's, 15-3

Class 3A championship: Austin St. Andrew's def. Austin St. Stephen's, 14-6

Girls lacrosse

Champion: Dallas Hockaday def. St. John's, 20-10.
