Approximately 60% of students come from a language background other than English - over 65 languages are represented among the student body. The school's mission is to develop the talents of each student through the provision of high quality educational, sporting, cultural and leadership opportunities where it has a strong history of success. The school recognises the diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds of its students and the roles these play in shaping student learning. Its proactive welfare programs support all students in their growth to manhood. Student centred and student driven curriculum offer the widest possible range of subjects to engage students at all levels. The school offers the full suite of Extension courses for the HSC. School strengths include university entrance (over 85% of students applying for university are successful), chess, involvement in the School Show at NIDA Theatres, sporting excellence (many old boys have represented Australia in their chosen sports) and high levels of technology in educational programs. Performance data in NAPLAN consistently shows that the school performs at an above average level against boys' non-selective schools. Achievement in numeracy is a particular strength.
