Celtic's Anthony Ralston says becoming a father was the "inspiration" behind form that has led the right-back to earn a three-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old, whose previous deal was due to end in May, has agreed a contract until summer 2025.

Right-back Ralston has become a regular starter this season since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager.

"My little girl is a massive part of my life and everything I do now is for her," he told CelticTV.

"It gives me that extra motivation. I can really focus on my football for her and continue on the right pathway for her future."

Ralston had found himself sent out on loan to Dundee United and St Johnstone after making his Celtic debut in May 2016.

However, the Celtic youth academy graduate was handed a new one-year contract at the end of last season and half of his 42 senior appearances have now come this season under Postecoglou.

"He's gave me my opportunity and it was down to me to take it, so I'm grateful," Ralston said. "But also the style of play that he's brought in has given me a free role in the position and I've tried to learn it as best as I could.

"It feels amazing to see that my hard work has paid off to be offered a new deal."

Former Scotland Under-21 international Ralston, who has also contributed four goals this season, says he is "living the dream" having "always supported Celtic".

"When you're not involved for the period that I was last season, it was important that I kept myself right and worked hard away from the pitch," he added. "When the opportunity came round, I was ready to take it because I put the work in and now I'm ready to kick on."
