You could spend 5-6 hours in here and still can not see all of the animal in here. The flowers were, of course, amazing, but the information, the landscaping, the outreach events, even the food, were all outstanding. Paid a little more for tickets but well worth it. Friendly staff everywhere- from beginning to end of the game. We were at the Milwaukee Brewers game. Food is overpriced but this was anticipated. - AnntAnnsMadison, Wisconsin, United States43 contributionsAmazing interior. Positively glitters from every angle. Using ancient techniques for the mosaics, the cathedral is WELL worth visiting. Be warned: there are TWO cathedrals that google recognizes as "Basilica of Saint Louis." The one called "the old cathedral" is a lovely place from the 18th century which is very nearby The Arch. The mosaiced one (reviewed here) is not too far away.
The main floor is fully accessible for wheelchairs, but the basement museum is not. The museum is mainly devoted to the building of the Cathedral and the mosaics, but has a 14th century Choir book on display, as well as vestments and various liturgical items from the past couple of centuries.
The main chapel, rotunda, side chapels...everything...are covered in mosaics. gorgeous work that use both the medieval style figures and some really great more modern style, telling the story of the city. If you go, keep looking up...everything changes as you walk around. All of fascinating and VERY colorful. We were privileged to hear a lovely 10 minutes from the main pipe organ toward the end of our hour there.

No problem said Steve our tour director. Before the tour he told us a lot of information and off we went. The Clydesdale’s are amazing! I couldn’t recommend this tour more! Afterwords we went across the street and did the tram through the wild animals area. The Grant Farm ensemble was outstanding! Everyone we met was really nice and seemed to love their job! There us so much to do here if we lived her we would definitely be members. - RobertSuzanneTucson, AZ167 contributionsWe took the tram to the top of the Arch, which gives you spectacular views of the city and Mississippi River. It was a sunny day and we could see very far into the city and the countryside. The tram car is fairly small, 5 people per car but it was closed in with just 3 people in our car, and takes 3 minutes to get you to the top. There are other activities at the Arch such as the Museum of Westward Expansion which provided a lot of information about the early city of St. Louis as well as stories about Native Americans, explorers, and early pioneers. We also watched the movie about the building of the Arch. Then we went to the Virtual Reality Theater where we put on headsets that let us see the 1850’s St. Louis Riverfront.
