A puncher but he is well rounded. He does not get outboxed. So he can box with the best. He does not get outworked his accurcy is questionable because he throws so much. His activty is his best asseset and his worst enemy. He hit guys alot but opens himself for counter punches.

Pacquiao is a speedy, skilled aggressive rhythm fighter who uses his speed to put mental and physical pressure on opponents.

I hate using the term "brawler" to describe Manny. He's more along the lines of a guy like Calzaghe or Martinez in that he is a rhythm fighter that gets you to fight at his pace, a pace that favors him.

Doesn't brawler imply getting in close and using lots of wrestling/clinching to get an advantage? Manny doesn't like to mess around inside too much, he's more of a fast moving hard hitting guy who like to work from the outside and use movement to create angles

Exactly- that's why I don't understand the "Brawler turned boxer" talk.

Someone show me a Manny fight where he won by "brawling"?

Pac's a boxer/brawler. In the Philippines, "boxing" is the prevalent style of fighting (think of the 1-2-3 combo). However, there are fighters like Manny who doesn't shy away from a slug fest.

Pac is a swarmer. Like Hank Armstrong.

George Foreman is a slugger. JCC Sr. was a pressure fighter. Floyd is a boxer. Those are considered different styles.

Awesome.

brawler that learned boxing skills later on in his career. Now he's like more of a boxer/brawler hybrid or a brawler with boxing skills at least i think so

He's a slugger with great boxing skills.

Lol you can't be a slugger and a good boxer.

Thomas Hearns would like to have to have a word with you.

u/shawn8795 avatar

Hearns was a boxer-puncher, don't cite The War as your resource lol.

Um, yes you can. Exhibit A: Manny Pacquiao

Arturo Gatti was precisely that.

If Gatti had decent boxing skills Floyd wouldn't have embarrassed him the way he did.

thats a horrible argument. NO shame in losing to floyd.

Manny's a pressure fighter. He comes forward intelligently and overwhelms with speed, volume and accuracy.

He's an in-and-out fighter: charges in swarming and then backs out counterpunching - and then repeat. He's more boxer than brawler but when he's swarming he does get a bit brawly, but you can see he's a boxer in his underrated counterpunching. But he's not really an out and out swarmer/pressure fighter because he won't stay on you for the entire three minutes - he dives in and out.

What's more crazy about Manny is that he only really has one punch (the straight left) and one combo (jab-feint-jab-left) and yet he manages to get such incredible variety on his angles of attack.

He's a swarmer.

I say super aggressive boxer, never seen him backpedal or tried to jump off the ring like some "slick" boxers, he is the definition of "no retreat, no surrender" with elite boxing skills.

Pacquiao is a sexer. At least, I sex with the same rythmn as he fights,so I'd call him a sexer style. Not sure how you guys do it.
