P.J. Hogan’s neglected masterpiece UNCONDITIONAL LOVE never found a theatrical release in America, receiving instead an informal premiere on the Stars television network in 2003 (the film was completed in 1999). For a film that deals with society’s forgotten, this is a bit of irony that lends a poignant, almost mythic stature to Hogan’s wildly inventive, perfectly structured comedy.
