This is a sizable shop that takes up two storefronts. It sells antiques, furniture, home décor, jewelry, gift items, and more from sixteen dealers.
The shop sprawls through multiple rooms on two levels. It’s on the hill coming down from Upper Square. The lower level is one big room with mostly furniture and home décor and has several dividers such as shelving or larger pieces of furniture. The upper level has the main entrance and four rooms and is where the office and cashier are.
Facing the main entry door on my June visit was an oval standing mirror in front of a Queen Anne-style highboy quite similar to the one I have in my home. It had the carved shell design on the small top center drawer and the batwing drawer pull hardware. I believe it was an American Drew piece. Mine is Pennsylvania House.
One case up front had antique jewelry. I saw a tray with several cuff bracelets.
In the office area, one will find the one or two small Boston Terriers in residence for the day. They are the store mascots and official greeters. They’re just too cute. True to their breed characteristics, they are friendly, people-oriented, lively, alert, well-behaved, curious, playful, and like attention from visitors to the shop. I enjoyed patting and playing with them. Poppy, the one with the black and white tuxedo markings is a medium size for the breed. Stella is a smaller dog with grey and white tuxedo markings.
The upper part of the shop has many display areas in cozy alcoves. One had an antique teddy bear in a military-look drum major’s outfit, a chest-of-drawers type jewelry box, an antique table clock, two short bureau lamps, a wall clock, a set of antique dinner plates, and more.
There was a good amount of antique furniture in the back ~ chests of drawers, end tables, cabinets, tiered tables/shelving, tower storage shelving, mirrors, etc.
I also saw some pottery, wall art, and decorations.
Other items of particular interest here and there included a metal catch-all box, several crystal decanters, a large multi-gallon beverage dispenser with a spout, and a red and white model of an antique convertible car with the Coca-Cola name on the door.
On my September visit, I noticed that one couch had a ukulele and an acoustic guitar on the seat. They were arranged so that they appeared to have been just set down after being played. In the next area, there was a wall hanging of a wire guitar.
Nearby was a very nice roll-top desk that was compact enough to fit into a little nook.
On a more-recent visit, I spent more time browsing the lower level which is down four steps.
There, the first items I saw were three Shaker chairs.
In a display nearby, I found a medium-sized bean pot, several pieces of serve ware, and a caricature figurine of a dog that appeared to be a hound.
Another area had a set of dinner plates with Currier & Ives art printed on them. I particularly liked the one titled The Old Grist Mill. It was priced at $7.00.
In several other places, there were fall decorations. Two one-of-a-kind items were a 2.5-foot stuffed pumpkin-head character done in cloth and a 1.5-foot pumpkin-head straw scarecrow.
Another shelf held an antique wire grain separator which was truly a curio.
In yet another area, I came upon a metal colander that had been converted into a wall clock.
One standout piece of furniture in the lower level was a vintage open country hutch with a sideboard. It was painted white.
Quite some time ago, I bought a wooden magazine rack here. Like everything else I’ve seen in the shop, it was in perfect condition and still is to this day.
I rate Just The Thing! at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit even if it's just to browse just as several people were doing during my September visit which was on a dreary, very cool Sunday afternoon.
The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews and some health issues.

I came across this neat little antique store while shopping in Dover. It has two ground-floor rooms and an upstairs room filled with antique and vintage furniture and furninshings including handcrafted and/or handpainted items, lamps, mirrors, rugs, framed pictures, pottery, ceramics, and so on. There are over a dozen local dealers represented here, and there are some very good finds. The two resident French bulldogs are adorable.
