Hurricanes acquire forward David Kase from Flyers - Carolina Hurricanes News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded forward prospect Massimo Rizzo and a fifth-round pick in 2025 to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward David Kase.

A 2015 fifth-round pick, Kase is also the younger brother of former Hurricane, Ondrej Kase.

Kase, 26,  appeared in just seven games for the Flyers over the span of two seasons, but hasn't played in North America since 2021.

He has spent the past two seasons playing in the Czech Extraliga, where he's registered 10 goals and 37 points in 68 games. Kase is currently under contract with HC Litvinov.

It is not clear what the Hurricanes plans are for Kase as the Canes do not have an AHL affiliate for the Czech forward to play for nor do they have an open spot on the roster.

Perhaps then this is just simply a way for the Canes to pay back the Flyers for buying out Tony DeAngelo, thus allowing Carolina to sign him for even cheaper, after the league nixed the initial deal the two teams had in place.

Rizzo, who was a Carolina 2019 seventh-round pick, was initially reported to be the player going the other way in the initial DeAngelo deal. The University of Denver forward has put up strong results in two seasons in the NCAA with a total of 29 goals and 82 points over that span.
