The Wave is a different and fresh sci-fi with some thrills and comedy. Stars Justin Long as Frank, as he's out celebrating his impending promotion with his friend, he takes a mysterious hallucinogen that alters his perception of reality. It’s fun watching the banter between Long and his friend Jeff, played by Donald Faison. This spirals and goes down a very trippy path. It does get carried away. I felt like I was on psychedelics at times watching this. The humor helped kept things going as they try to figure out what happened. However, the ending was pretty lame. I think this worked more than it didn't. They had some good ideas but couldn't stick the landing.
Stupidly announces its dipshit stoner dorm room twist almost immediately and then has the unmitigated gall to apply said twist to a narrative in which I was asked to give a shit about anything Justin Long does or says.
My type of movie. An entertaining, surreal and twisty little sci-fi fantasy thriller that's really good. Great lead performance from Justin Long. The visuals are really cool. Loved how stressful and random this was. Like nothing makes any sense until the great ending that brings everything together. I definitely recommend checking this out if you like trippy sci-fi movies.
One hell of a time jumping ride and I’m pretty sure I loved every minute of it
“Where the fuck did you get that clock?!?”
Quick Review
Amidst the multicolored chaos and confusing narrative, there is some meaningful charm to be found in The Wave's breathtakingly effective "drug-fueled" visuals and its existential story of universal harmony, karmic balance, and the purpose of the self. Debuting director Gille Klabin handles the next chapter of psychedelic cinema, written by Carl W. Lucas, with sufficient economic flair and an arresting, stress-inducing mood that the viewer would typically expect, though understandably not enough to make the movie itself flow seamlessly together. A likable and reliable performance was expectedly emitted out of Justin Long, who as Frank, the unhappy, morally compromised lawyer with a somewhat mid-life crisis as well, nails the face of the typical white male in severe need…
Justin Long will always behave,
Until he succumbs to "The Wave".
As time persists,
He'll see the twist,
Allowing him to be brave.
Middle aged dude has a drug fueled crazy evening that involves questioning his life choices while tripping the fuck out ... sooo the visuals were cool for some of that stuff and this is probably a film that would be immensely fun to watch under the influence but I found it kinda boring ... and now I’ve seen three films named the wave ... this being my least favorite of the 3
Despicable insurance lawyer Frank (Justin Long) makes the completely rational decision to go out on the town with his best friend Jeff (Donald Faison) the night before the biggest day of his working life - he's about to prove a multi-million dollar life insurance contract his company is due to pay out is invalid - and encounters Theresa (Sheila Vand) and her friend Natalie (Katia Winter) at a bar.
The foursome end up at a wild house party where Frank decides to take an unspecified hallucinogenic given to him by the mysterious Aeolus (Tommy Flanagan).
Subsequently, his life goes to hell in a handbasket as his reality and time begin to disintegrate and with the help of Jeff and Natalie,…
One of the movies my roommate wanted me to watch.
Has a great cast and I love Justin Long.
Was fun and trippy
👀
Woah. I think I already want to watch this again now that I know that the ending makes everything else fall in line. It felt like a comedic version of Flashback. It even had the same feeling of disarray and nothing makes sense on purpose, until the reveal at the end.
While this was slightly more organized than Flashback was, it wasn't as impactful and that's definitely from the lighter, comedic tone. When I rewatch this with my roommates I may raise my rating to an 8/10 but I won't for now because I wasn't taking it as seriously as I should have since I thought it was just a funny drug trip. I love Justin Long and he's never…
The premise is a bit of a favourite sub-genre of mine. Non-druggie type of person ends up taking something that trips them out big time, causing havoc to their stable lifestyle and familiar routines.
The closest movie that comes to mind is Smiley Face (2007), which I loved at the time, but The Wave is dialled up to an existential crisis.
Our lead is a corporate insurance lawyer, stuck in a loveless marriage and content to live a dull existence.
He doesn't go out on weekdays, even if it's to celebrate a promotion.
On one hand, I get it. Come sundown, the only place I wanna be in is in the comfort of my own home; with good food, a…
